Features Of The Best Baby Strollers

First and foremost the best baby strollers are safe. Without safety, all the features and options just like a new car are totally meaningless; therefore the features profiled below are on "good" or "excellent" baby strollers as rated by Consumer Safety.

Cargo Baskets

Babies require a lot of stuff, having plenty of room to stow that stuff is vital to every parent who has ever tried to walk in the park, have a day at the mall, or manage a trip to an outdoor cafe on a summer afternoon.

The cargo baskets should be low and centered between the wheels for maximum stability. Never hang a heavy back from the back of the stroller; upsetting the center of balance causes instability.

Look for:

Deep soft sided mesh cargo baskets, positioned low and between the wheels, that have both front and rear easy access.

Removable Car Seat

Never wake a sleeping baby, that is every parent's number one rule. Choose strollers which offer a combination car seat and stroller configurations. The ability to gently unlatch a car seat and attach it securely to a stroller is invaluable for transporting a sleeping baby.

Look for:

Strollers that will grow with your baby, infant car seats meeting weight requirements for your child that will latch firmly to the stroller; stroller seating which offers upright and reclining positions for when the car seat is not in use.

Collapsibility and Stowage

Stowing a stroller in the trunk or cargo area of your vehicle can be the bane of all parent's travels. Managing that task with a toddler in tow, or groceries and a diaper bag in one hand is nearly impossible.

Many a toddler has started to wander in a parking lot while a frazzled parent is fighting with an uncooperative stroller.

Look for:

One hand folding, compact collapsibility, and light weight design for easy stowage in your cargo area; leaving the other hand free to manage other precious cargo, such as active toddlers.

Cup Holder and Key/Toy Hooks

Parents need refreshment while out and about with baby. Strollers with convenient cup holders not only hold mom or dad's latte but are a great place to stash the car keys or hold a dozing baby's bottle.

Look for:

Minimum of two cup holders, rings or slots for attaching pacifier leashes or car keys, and cup holders of mesh or hard plastic for easy clean-up of leaks or spills.

Maneuverability

Squeezing into a corner of a trendy cafe for lunch, or weaving through lines at an amusement park or zoo can be difficult at best with a oversized uncooperative stroller.

Look for:

Swivel front wheels are a minimum; four wheel steering with locking or disengaging rear wheel steering is preferred. Compact design and good overall balance for swift maneuvers in parking lots or tight spaces, adjustable handles are a bonus for the vertically challenged parent.

Know More About BT Baby Monitor Pacifier

The BT Baby Monitor Pacifier is one item that is both practical and stylish. Plus, it comes with a variety of features that will make it all the more valuable to own. If you are in a quandary with respect to a baby monitor choice, then the BT monitor is one that you'll want to include at the top of your shopping list.

The BT Digital Baby Monitor and Pacifier falls under the classification of an audio baby monitor with a number of desirable features. Basic monitors come with limited amenities and can be lacking with respect to monitoring. However, a good monitor like the BT Baby Monitor Pacifier includes two-way communication, or a talkback feature which permits parents to talk to baby, and comes with a temperature display, natural sounds and music, and a nightlight too.

In particular, the BT Baby Monitor Pacifier is preferred by parents as it also is equipped with high-definition sound and will vibrate any alerts. High definition sound allows the parent to hear their baby without distortion and, therefore, without worry as the sound is so distinct. While this feature is not exactly necessary when baby is crying, it certainly brings peace of mind at any other time. Parents like the talk back feature on the unit as it enables them to soothe their baby if he is crying and they are in another room.

The nightlight feature is unique as it will color-code the room temperature, so to speak. It softly shines blue if the room temp is a bit cool, orange if the temperature is a bit too high, and red if the temperature is too warm for comfort. Yellow glows if the room temperature is at the right setting. The actual temperature is also displayed on the unit. In addition, a light show comes with the monitor as well an auxiliary input for MP3.

Consumers simply love this product, with most of the Amazon reviewers giving the monitor a five-star rating with a couple four-star ratings sprinkled in the mix. Perhaps, the only complaint was the price (which is around £80 GBP). Still, even that reviewer felt the monitor was well worth the price, given its access to MP3 music.

Take the BT Baby Monitor Pacifier conveniently with you as it comes with a travel bag. When you buy this product, you will receive two units - one for baby and the other for parents, a charger, rechargeable batteries for the parent unit, two power adapters and the aforementioned tote.

Home From the Hospital With Your Newborn

The time spent just after childbirth is a beautiful time for mother and baby. The days spent on the couch and snuggled up in bed getting well needed rest and getting to know each other are just priceless days. These are the days that mom is still in her nursing pajamas around the clock and baby is mostly sleeping and eating. Mom and baby deserve this time after all the long months of living together and never meeting. It is a time for rest, a time for a peaceful setting, and a time for other people to help out around the house.

Dad and Grandma need to step up and do some laundry, some cooking, and some chores. Kudos to Dads who do these things regularly anyway, but now is the time to step up if he hasn't already.

Photos should be another priority. Baby is just as newborn as can be and the pictures taken in these first few days will be well worth the extra effort you made to take them.

If there is ever a time to hire a professional - now would be it. The precious face of your newborn and the obvious innocence they carry is just a priceless thing. Photos now will be different than the messy face of the first ice cream cone and the dressed up first day of school.

Mommy and newborn baby will be spending time together around the clock, so another good tip is to let Daddy help out. Moms need to take a break and shower, eat, and take a little time alone. If for only shower time or for meal time, the break is needed and will make the time spent with baby all that much better. Put on a clean nursing bra and get right back to baby after a nice long hot shower. Brush your hair, brush your teeth, shave your legs. Without these daily routines, a new mom can start to feel like they just lost their whole life. Necessary hygiene routines should not be skipped and starting as early as those first few days home from the hospital with baby will make all the difference. It is okay if baby is crying with Daddy. Daddy needs to learn how to comfort his new baby just as much as Mom does.

One last tip for new Moms bringing baby home is to accept cleaning service gifts. As a woman, I know we can be stubborn about cleaning our own home. If your best friend gives you a gift certificate for a cleaning service, accept it and use it now. The last thing a new mom needs to be doing the week home from the hospital is cleaning the shower and the toilet. Enjoy every minute of your newborn and the joy of being a mother.

Baby Flash Cards - Choose the Perfect Learning Toy for Your Kid

The baby flash cards are both entertaining and educational. Every parent should get a set for their child. You will love playing with your youngster teaching him/her interesting new things and helping him/her explore the world around. You just need to choose the right set of cards.

Safety is the first factor to consider when it comes to choosing any type of toy including baby flash cards. It is essential for the cards to be made from a non-toxic hypoallergenic material. You can expect babies to put these in their mouth as part of the exploration process so it is essential for the material not to pose any choking hazards. It should not cause irritation or rash. The cards should have round edges. They should not be hard.

What will the baby flash cards teach your child? The educational value of the set is really important to consider. Some cards are designed to introduce basic objects that your child will come across in his/her day to day life. These include stuffed bunnies and bears, animals, toys and different fruits and vegetables. Others have further educational purposes. They may help the youngster learn the colors, numbers and even letters. Obviously, cards designed to help your child learn to count and read the different letters can be used in the long term so they are generally a good choice.

The fun factor should always be taken into consideration when it comes to baby flash cards. After all, they will be used for playing as well as for learning. It is important for the cards to be colorful. Similarly, the objects they are presenting should be large enough for the kid to recognize easily. In general, when you look at each card, you should find it interesting and amusing at the same time.

Choosing between textured and traditional cards is a dilemma many parents have. Textured cards allow your baby to explore through touch as well as through vision and this might be quite useful, especially when it comes to learning about the different parts of an object. On the other hand, textured sets may not be as durable as their plastic and other counterparts. If you opt for such a toy set you have to ensure that its safety is optimal.

Baby flash cards have to be practical for the parent as well as fun and educational for the child. You should be able to store the cards in a package. It is also a good idea for them to come in a ring so that they can be kept together even during play, if necessary.

Baby Casting, What's That?

Baby casting, what's that? You may well ask, it is exactly what it sounds like, taking casts of your baby. Not the whole baby of course! Usually just one hand or foot, though of course you can have any combination of baby castings you want

You could have a hand and a foot or even a full set of all of your baby's hands and feet. So how is it done? It's really just an extension of traditional life casting which has been practised by artists for many years. Essentially we take a mould of the body part and then use that mould to make a casting which is a perfect replica of the foot or hand we used to make the mould.

The traditional material used for life casting was Plaster of Paris, and it was used for both stages of the procedure, that means it was used to make the mould and the final cast. Plaster of Paris does have certain drawbacks; it generates heat when it's setting, not so bad when casting just a hand or foot, but it means it can get quite unpleasant for the model, when doing a full body cast.

The other major disadvantage of Plaster of Paris is that when it sets it is absolutely rigid, this means that moulds have to be done in sections or you would never get the model out without breaking the mould. It can't even be used to do just a hand or foot in a one piece moulding.

Now you must be wondering how we can make a mould of a real delicate little baby's hand or foot. How can we do it with something that gets hot and how can we get a baby to cooperate while we make a two piece mould? Well the answer is simple; we don't use plaster to make the mould.

What we use is relatively new material called alginate, it's made from seaweed and it's perfectly safe. If you've ever had a dental crown your dentist will have made an impression of your teeth using alginate. The obvious advantages over plaster are that it doesn't get hot when it sets and it stays slightly flexible, it's rigid enough to make a mould of a hand or foot in one piece but flexible enough to get your hand out with out breaking the mould. And the other great advantage is that it only takes a few minutes to make a mould of a hand or foot.

Once we've got our mould we take it back to the studio where we use it to make a plaster cast, the tricky part is in making sure we have absolutely no air bubbles in the casting. The only disadvantage to this whole procedure is that we have an alginate mould in one piece which means we have to destroy the mould to remove the casting. Not a big drawback when you weigh it up against the advantages, but if we want a new casting of the same body part then we have to start at the beginning and make a new alginate mould.

Nappies For The Future

Cloth nappies or also known as organic nappies, reusable, cotton nappies or washables are easy to handle, even easier to care for and very cute too. Newborn nappies are simply not old-fashioned. When you consider that cloth nappies are also good for the environment just like biodegradables, better for your wallet and (compared to disposables for the budget conscious) and is chemical free for the health of your baby.

Disposables are quick and easy to change, light to carry, available wherever you go in the world and used nappies can simply be thrown away. Both reusable and disposable nappies have their own advantage and disadvantages. This article will help you compare how they can work for you, your baby and the environment.

Cloth or Disposable Nappies?

Cloth advantages:

It can be folded in different ways to make sure they are a comfortable fit for your baby.Disposable nappies are more expensive than cloth nappies as they can be washed and re-used.Cloth nappies can be used again for other babies. No foul smelling disposables. Some brands of disposable nappies smell even when they are just wet.Cloth nappies re good for the environment as they do not end up in landfill.

Cloth disadvantages:

Cloth nappies can be kept soft and clean with careful washing, but they may become hard if this is not done carefully. A short time in a tumble dryer after drying nappies in the sun will soften them if needed. Drying them in the sun or a hot tumble dryer will also kill bacteria on the nappies.
Fabric softeners when washing cloth nappies is not ideal. The nappies will not be able to absorb as much urine and the chemicals may irritate the skin.
If cloth nappies are used with plastic pilchers they can lead to rashes because the skin stays wet. Using other covers may not be a problem.

Disposable advantages:

They are easy to put on and take off.Disposable nappies are certainly convenient, especially when both parents are working or when travelling. With disposables you just whip off the dirty diaper and pop it straight into the bin.Disposable nappies may help prevent nappy rash by drawing moisture away from the skin.

Disposable disadvantages:

Disposable nappies are not really that easy to dispose of, so they may be a saviour for busy mothers but there anything but for mother earth. This convenience comes at a cost. It is more expensive than cloth nappies. There is also a possible risk that harmful organisms found in the contents of the nappy can contaminate the water sources and cause infection.

Whichever type of nappy that you choose, scrape the poo off it before putting the nappy aside to wash, or before disposing of the nappy.

How can I avoid nappy rash?
Best way to keep the baby's bottom as rash-free as possible is to change nappies often so that urine and poo is not in contact with skin for too long.Wash the baby's skin gently with water on a cloth. If using baby wipes, choose ones without alcohol to avoid stinging, especially when there is a rash present. After cleaning, put on some zinc cream or other nappy cream to keep wetness off of the skin. Make sure to leave the nappy off for a while during playtime to allow air dry the skin and if a baby has a nappy rash, it may be helpful to use disposable nappies which draw the urine away from the baby's skin, keeping it dry.

It is very easy for thrush to grow in the nappy area once the skin has become red and damaged. This will show as a very red area with spots around it. Special creams are available which clear this type of rash quickly, so see the baby's doctor or child health nurse if the nappy rash doesn't clear in a day or so.

Why Use Cloth Nappies

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

There are many reasons that today's mums prefer reusable nappies, and with new styles and a better fit, there isn't any reason to not use them. Parents usually use these nappies to be able to potty train their children more quickly. They don't have moisture-absorbing additives, children can quickly sense when they are wet and will be more receptive to potty training.

Babies in cloth nappies are normally changed into a clean nappy more quickly because mum can tell when the nappy is damp, which leads to less nappy rash.

In fact, parents who are concerned about the environment are curious about nappy options. Cloth are a great option for going green and can be just as convenient, and are often more comfortable than disposables.

Cloth nappies have been making a quiet comeback, as there are more and more benefits for parents who opt for the traditional or non-traditional cloth nappy.

Cloth Nappies And The Environment
Even though it consumes resources such as water for washing cloth nappies, it is still viewed as a better environmental choice than traditional disposables. Cloths are good for recycling because they can be used again and again, not entering a landfill until they are nothing but rags.

Cloth Nappies And Your Baby's Comfort
Nappy rash was almost unheard of before the use of plastic or rubber pants in the 1940s. Cloths are soft and perfect for your baby's skin. By using unbleached cloth nappies and hypoallergenic detergents, you can also minimize the chemicals that your baby is exposed to, and keep his or her skin healthier and less irritated.

Babies rarely have to contend with nappy rash because cloths breathe. In warm weather, a baby in a breathable cloth is less likely to get prickly heat. The most common reason for nappy rash is excessive moisture against skin. Your newborn should be changed every hour and older babies every 3-4 hours, no matter what kind of diaper they are wearing.

Cloth Nappies And Cost
Every single cent counts and the cost of cloth is one of the best advantages. They are cheaper than disposable nappies, even if you take into account their laundry costs. Parents will always be looking for ways to cut their household expenses and that is why cloths will always be a good option.

Some mothers who haven't used cloths before have the mistaken belief that they are not easy to use. They only think of the bulky, awkward squares of cloth that had to be properly folded, pinned and then covered with pants. However, modern cloth come in different designs and colours plus adjustable Velcro fastener. They are nothing like the kind your mum or granny used before. Why choose cloth nappies? Because they have comfort, cost and environmental soundness. In the end, a parent will always make the right choice for her baby and her baby will always guide her towards the right decision.

Wooden Baby Toys - The 3 Main Benefits of Wooden Toys

There are a great many benefits that come with wooden baby toys that may not be obvious at first glance. Although they don't make noises on their own and don't provide the same kinds of adventures that electronic toys can they still have a great many things to teach children and they don't even require batteries to run or operate.

Rather than being a negative, the very things that wooden toys don't do for your child, are exactly what makes them so beneficial for their development. Electronics do have a place in the world of children but when you think about it, where were all the electronics when our parents and grandparents were growing up? Despite the fact that they didn't have the "advantages" of technology that children have today they seemed to have turned out quite well; they were a generation that proved to be very self-sufficient and resourceful.

1. Durable

Wooden toys make a great addition to a child's toy collection. They are a pleasure to touch and can take the hard-knocks of rough play without falling apart like most plastic toys will. If constructed of quality wood, means the toy will be strong and can bear the weight of a child whilst taking the usual playtime battering.

2. Imagination

Wooden toys will also allow a child's imagination room to grow and flourish. As images and concepts are not "spoon-fed" to them the child has an opportunity to develop their own stories using toys as faithful companions on their merry adventures. Most of the time, wooden toys are not representative of media icons, which means a child's imagination is not limited to what they have already seen on television or in the movies. This allows them to expand and enhance their own creative imagination.

Many child development experts and parents will agree that the more a child uses their imagination, the stronger it will become which can contribute to a child having better creative faculties later in life, the practical side meaning they have a better chance of turning into highly resourceful adults. There are definite advantages to building a strong imagination. A good imagination will take a child to any place in the world just by using their thought processes.

The greatest inventions of all time have come from the imagination of people who were probably allowed to develop their creative faculties in childhood.

3. Education

All wooden toys have their own particular educational value and benefit in the development of a child's mind and body. One example would be wooden toy puzzles. These help children to develop hand-eye coordination and skills at solving problems. While it is true that puzzles of all kinds can provide the same benefit, handing down wooden puzzles and wooden toy boxes from one generation to another also has the benefit of becoming a beautiful heirloom through the years.

Sorting games such as bead sequencing sets also provide hand-eye coordination and reasoning training. Anything that will stimulate learning and discovery in a way that enhances a child's development processes is only a positive. When the imagination is stirred the true versatility of any toy, especially wooden toys are demonstrated. Children will often return to their favourite toy time and again as they embark on another playtime adventure. For this reason, adding wooden toys to a child's toy chest is a worthwhile investment in their development.

Parents who are shopping for wooden baby toys should take the time to shop online for the array of different products to be found, there are many wooden baby toys available that are produced with consideration to the environment, which is a bonus. Wooden toys are a great investment in a child's future, can be preserved as family heirlooms and will probably have you reminiscing about your own childhood when your first wooden toys were introduced to you; I'm assuming you turned out quite well too.

Your Baby's Sleeping Environment

Ensure your baby has a safe and happy sleeping environment

Your newborn baby needs a safe and comfortable sleeping environment in their first few months; having these also helps you catch up on the sleep you've been missing out on. We have put together some tips keeping safety in mind to help you and your baby sleep happily and healthy. There are important factors to consider in your baby's sleeping environment. Baby's room, mattress and bedding for baby, how you should position your baby in bed and when to make the move from cot-to-bed. Read the tips below and help give your baby a safe and happy sleeping environment.

Your baby's room

Studies have shown that the risk SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) is decreased when your baby sleeps in the same room as you during the first few months from birthThe correct temperature is important in your baby's room, NHS advises the range of temperature should be between 16C - 20CThe room should be completely smoke-freeBaby's like to sleep quite so ensure no windows or doors are left open to noise causing disturbance to your baby's sleepWires or cords in the room should be safely tucked away to avoid dangerEnsure baby's cot is positioned away from objects your baby could use to pull-up on as he or she grows

Putting your baby to bed

Your baby should lay flat on their back unless advised otherwise from a healthcare provider studies have shown this decreases the risk of SIDSTo prevent moving or wriggling down the cot blankets should be tucked in with the baby's feet at the foot of the mattress

Baby's bedding

Ensure bedding is well ventilated so your baby can breathe freelyAll bedding should be fire-proofNo hot water bottles or electrical blankets in baby's bedThe surface should be flat / firm without the need for a pillowCotton cot blankets should be used, duvets can be used when your baby is at least a year oldEnsure baby's head is uncovered with bedding only up to the chest

Making the move from cot to bed

It can be a difficult decision to make when your baby is ready to make the move from cot to bed, if him or her stand and top rail of the cot is below the chest it is usually a general rule that it's time to make the move.

The Benefits of Baby Slings

Baby carriers have been created to give mothers all the help they can get while taking care of their young one. Using baby carriers or Babywearing (as it is called) is basically a way of carrying your child or toddler around with the help of a baby carrier or baby sling. Having to take care of one baby is a handful by itself. Imagine having to tend to a newborn baby while taking care of 2 other toddlers. Think about the stress that you feel when the newborn needs your undivided attention at the same time that the toddlers want their lunch. One word comes to mind - NIGHTMARE.

Reasons Why Mothers Should use Baby Slings or Baby Carriers

There are a number of benefits to using baby carriers or slings to carry your child around. Let's start with the obvious.

Multi-tasking - With a baby sling you can do housework; tend to other children, breastfeed and more. This is because your hands are free while your child is securely strapped near to you. Not to mention that if you live in a densely populated area and need to travel by foot with your child then maneuvering with a baby sling is better than using a stroller.

Less Crying - Hands down this has got to be the most appreciated benefit of baby carriers. This is a fact mothers. Babies that are carried around for at least 3 hours each day will cry about 50% less than babies that are not carried around. I am sure you are now rejoicing at this fact! Now this is not surprising as we all know that babies love to be held. Want proof? Just pick up a child and you will see the joy in their face or the fact that most babies will stretch their arms out to you when you reach for them.

Promotes Bonding - Baby slings are a great way for a mother to bond with her child. This happens because the child is being held close to their mother via the baby carriers. Research has also shown that carrying your child in baby carriers can even reduce incidents of postpartum depression.

Improves Child Development - Because babies that are being carried around are constantly being exposed to new sights and sounds they are more likely to learn more words than babies that are placed in a crib to stare at a single image.

The Perfect Workout - Doing your regular household chores is a workout by itself. Imagine adding an additional 6 to 20 pounds to your regular routine. Can you say "feel the burn"? Think of baby carriers as your free lose-the-pregnancy-weight ticket. Every step around the house now becomes a workout. J

Are Baby Slings Safe?

Now obviously as a mother (especially a first time mother) you will be thinking about the safety of the child. Well if this is you, then you will be happy to know that when used properly and according to instructions baby slings and baby carriers will not cause any harm to your child.

I personally recommend baby slings over the buckling baby carriers. I found that by the time I got my son into the baby carrier and got all the buckles done up...I was crying as hard as he was! Baby slings are an easy way to get your baby into and out of a baby carrier - no muss, no fuss.

Ones designed especially for infants work well - I found the baby slings designed for toddlers up to three years of age were just too big for infants. And what 3 year old wants to ride around in a sling? Once they're walking, they are much too independent to stay in a sling!

Using Cloth Nappies at Night

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

What are the options available when you want to use cloth nappies (diapers) for your child overnight, but their daytime nappies just can't handle it?

When you have a newborn, you don't really need to look into different cloth napping options for night. Not only is the wee capacity of a newborn quite small, but as you're changing them when you feed them several times a night, you don't need a nappy that will absorb huge amounts of liquid or last for hours. Once your baby starts sleeping though the night, though, or if your toddler starts having several large wees overnight you may find that the nappies you've been using just don't work so well overnight.

There are several options available to you if you want to continue to use cloth nappies overnight.

Add extra absorbency to the nappies you use during the day

You can add extra boosters or inserts to your everyday nappies. How much you NEED to add will depend on your child's weeing capability, how much you CAN add will depend on the nappy. Generally a nappy with a wider crotch and a roomier behind works better than trimmer options for nighttime boosting.

Some brands actually have specific nighttime boosters you can add to their nappy for increased absorbency, which makes it nice and easy.

When you're adding extra absorbency to a nappy, make sure that the extra bulk doesn't create gaps around the leg or waist - you don't want leaks.

If you're using a nappy with a built in waterproof layer like a pocket nappy, make sure that the outer is 100% polyester - so poly PUL or minky PUL outers are best. If the nappy has a cotton PUL outer we wouldn't recommend it for long periods or nights as the wee can wick to the cotton outer and then spread to clothes.

For children who sleep with their bum in the air or otherwise not flat on their back, a Pocket, All-in-One or All-in-2 nappy may not be the best choice (though every child is different), as the position can cause gaping and leaks. In this case the best option is a fitted nappy and good cover.

Which brings us one of the best night options:

Use a fitted nappy and cover

A fitted nappy and a separate cover can be the best option for the average nighttime wetter. As the whole nappy is absorbent, it can take more wee than the average Pocket, AIO or AI2 nappy, and having a separate cover over the top really helps with leaks. You can also add additional boosters to the outside of the nappy, between it and the cover.

Wool and fleece covers can be great options for night covers due to their breathability. Wool is especially great due to the way it not only absorbs extra moisture, but actually evaporates it.

Use a dedicated night nappy

If you're finding that an ordinary fitted nappy just doesn't have absorbency that you need, then have a look at the various dedicated night nappies available.

Most of them are fitted nappies, so still require a waterproof cover over the top, but they have many more layers of fabric and absorbency in them than most standard fitted nappies. They can be bulky, and take longer to dry, but most of them fold out or disassemble for faster drying, and bulkiness is not the same issue it would be in a nappy used during the day.

If you still experience leaks using a night nappy, then using a wool cover rather than PUL can give you extra protection.

Top 10 Reasons to Use Microwave Sterilizer Bags

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Hygiene for your baby is a very important issue that you should consider at all times. Therefore its only fitting that you should chose the most hygienic way in which you feed your baby, and that includes sterilizing baby bottles. The most common way nowadays is by the use of microwave bags, which can sterilize a baby feeding bottle as well as other accessories.

There are other ways you can sterilize baby bottles including electric sterilizers, cold water tablet or old-fashioned boiling. But why should you choose microwave bags? Here are the top 10 reasons why.

1 No Extra Equipment Required.

If you have a microwave then you already own the only piece of 'equipment' that you need. Most modern homes have a microwave so there is no extra cost in buying bulky sterilizing equipment that can take up valuable bench space.

2. Easy to Use.

These bags are very easy to use. Most come with easy to follow instructions that you can use to get started. Follow the instructions yourself and normally in less 5 minutes you will be able to sterilize without any extra help.

3. Sterilization is done fast

Babies bottles can be sterilized in a very short period of time. Though there is no universal set time that applies to all bags, on average a sterilization cycle can take between 3 to 6 minutes. This is much faster than all other methods available on the market, and is the quickest way for you to be ready to feed your baby.

4. They are a great way to prevent disease

Sterilization of feeding bottles helps to prevent all sorts of diseases from occurring in babies. This includes reduced incidents of colic through to the prevention of food poisoning and gastroenteritis. The sterilization process kills 99% of all types of virus' and bacteria that may be on the surface of the bottle.

5. They are reusable

Most can be reused, some up to 20 times. How many times a bag can be used differs from one manufacture to another.

6. It is the cheapest way to sterilize

The price of sterilizer bags makes them most ideal choice for sterilizing all your baby's bottles. They are very cheap and come in packs of 6 to 20 depending on the manufacturer, and are reusable many times. When bought in bulk the cost of sterilizing each time may be as low as only a few cents.

7. They are ideal for travelling

They are such a convenience when traveling. Individual bags are small, light and easily fit into a 'baby bag'. You simply need to have a microwave and small amount of water available at your destination or in transit. When travelling bottles can be sterilized in advance at your motel and kept inside the microwave bag for use later in the day. And you can have peace of mind knowing that the bottles are sterile, ready for you to use.

8. They keep your breast pump clean

They are also an ideal way in which you can keep your breast pump clean, ensuring that the milk is at all times safe for your baby to drink.

9. Sterilization is recommended by your doctor

Doctors recommend that you keep all your baby's feeding equipment hygienically clean at all times.

10. They are scientifically tested

All microwave sterilizer bags are tested before they are sold on the market. They undergo a series of scientific tests to ensure that they sterilize effectively.

Microwave sterilizer bags are the convenient way to turn your own microwave into your very own sterilization unit. The bags can be used to sterilize feeding bottles, breast pumps, teething rings and other feeding accessories. Microwave sterilizer bags are available online and at most baby shops. They are simply a must for all mothers.

Jess Embling is from Easy Bubs Baby Care and she promotes baby products that are healthy for baby and cost effective & convenient for parents, like BPA-free Microwave Sterilizer Bags. They are the easiest and fastest way for sterilizing baby bottles and are a great to sterilize babies bottles when you travel.

EllaRoo Ring Sling and the Hoppediz Baby Sling

The use of baby slings has become increasingly popular and less gender specific more and more we see the male partner wearing a slings, and other types of carriers the modern fabrics, and designs have made the carriers/slings much more comfortable for both the parent and the child. In the world of slings the most popular brands are the EllaRoo Ring Sling, and the Hoppediz Ring Sling to name but two.

It is a common opinion of users and professionals alike that the EllaRoo ring sling is ideally suited for the more demanding babies and infants, through design the baby is kept close to the carer at all times. This enables the carer and the baby/infant to act and react as one unit.

With the increased popularity of baby carries and slings the subject of safety must be paramount for the protection of both the carer and the baby/infant. It is an essential that the carer adopts a think first attitude towards the safe use of these products, frequent inspection of the carrier/slings worthiness is essential; check all seams for signs of wear and distress, with ring slings check the ring for signs of wear.

With regard to the baby/infants well being whilst in the sling it is essential you remember the baby/infant need to have a clear air way, the nose needs to be clear and use the two finger rule between chin and chest (you must be able to comfortably place your two fingers between baby's chin and chest) this will ensure the baby/infant is able to breath freely.

In the daily use common sense is essential to ensure both the safety of the wearer and the child/infant, it is not recommended you wear the carrier whilst jogging or other physical activities, this may seem common sense but surprisingly it does happen. Under no circumstances should a carrier or sling be worn whilst driving, that's what child car seats are for.How many times would knowingly expose your baby/infant to harm? So wearing your baby/infant whilst cooking for instance is both irresponsible and dangerous.

If it is the first time you have used a carrier/sling ensure you are familiar with the use practice putting it on and taking it of, without your baby/child in place, use a child's doll to assist you in the process.

Once comfortable with use introduce the baby/infant to it gradually wear it round the house first to gently get the baby/infant used to the situation as above ensure the airways are open, check the baby's/infants legs are in the correct position per the carrier/slings operating instructions and remember check baby's airways and leg position clearly and at regular intervals whilst using your sling.

My Baby Sling Journey

As a primary school teacher, most evenings and weekends were taken up with preparing for lessons or up-coming school events. No matter how much effort I put in, there was always something else to do. When I became pregnant with our first child, I was worried that I would not have the time to care for him in the way I wanted to. After maternity leave I went back to my job determined to make it work. However, after six months, I began to resent the long hours expected of me by my employers. I did not know it at the time, but, like the effect of the motion of waves on rocks, the constant pressure, long hours and sleep deprivation slowly but steadily wore away my resilience and undermined my confidence. My passion had cooled and I knew I no longer wanted to be a teacher. My dilemma was obvious: I needed to find a new career that would re-build my self-esteem, give me a sufficient income and allow me to spend more time raising my family.

Unlike most journeys, the starting point of a personal journey can be hard to establish. Only by looking back do I realise that mine started with the simplest every day occurrence: a gift. I was given a basic baby carrier. As I was expecting my first son, I thought 'great' and ticked it off my list as another thing sorted. However, we only ended up using it a few times as it was fiddly to use and uncomfortable. My son, Edward, used to just hang in it and I felt it was not very supportive. Despite this, I had been introduced to babywearing and wanted to learn more.

When my second son, William, came along I was determined to find a better carrier. Luckily, the local health centre had some Moby Wraps for new mums to borrow. Both William and I loved it. He was nurtured and content whilst I was able to get on with the household chores. I could feed him and entertain Edward all at the same time. I was truly hands free. I liked it so much I ended up buying two! I couldn't bear the thought of not being able to carry William whilst one was in the wash. My husband, seeing how passionate I was about slings, suggested becoming a sling retailer. I was inspired! Things moved very quickly and before long we had suppliers, marketing material, a website and loads of lovely slings. I was in heaven! A tiny income stream was established and the constant positive feedback from customers gave my self-esteem a much needed boost. Then I discovered I was pregnant again!

Henry was in the Moby Wrap from day one for skin to skin bonding and to help regulate his temperature. His grandparents weren't happy that the huge double buggy they bought was hardly used (it is now sold). Henry has benefited from being nurtured in a wide range of carriers, giving him the safety and closeness to develop into a happy and contented baby. By carrying my children close to me, I have developed my natural parenting instincts and overall confidence as a mother. The business was doing well, too, but I was not satisfied simply being a retailer; the teacher in me was not quite dead, and, having seen what baby wearing had done for my children, I was keen to pass on this knowledge to other parents. Sensing this, my husband suggested I train as a sling consultant. I opted for Trageschule training as they are the oldest established providers and their teaching style suited my learning style. I have attended workshops with plenty of practice (and homework!) and have qualified as an advanced consultant. I now feel as if my company is more than just a niche retailer, it has a really valuable offer for carers seeking the right baby carrier for their situation.

For a long time I was searching for a way to change my situation, my experience has taught me to look for solutions in my immediate environment, to tune in to the signals I create as I go through life. My journey started with a gift. I now run a business I love, I have regained my confidence through learning new skills and gaining qualifications and I spend more time with my family. My dilemma now? Which sling to wear, of course.

The Challenges of Cloth Nappying a Newborn

Cloth nappying a newborn can be challenging, especially if it's your first baby and you don't have a lot of help.

Having a newborn to care for is a huge adjustment in and of itself, but there are several issues specific to cloth nappies:

It's hard to prepare

You don't know your baby's size or shape until they're born and whether they're better suited for a newborn nappy or can go straight into a One Size (OSFM) nappy.

You need so many nappies

Newborns are changed A LOT! What's 3 days worth of nappies for a 6 month old is only 1-2 days worth for a newborn. This means you'll either need more nappies for the first few months, or wash more often, or bulk out your stash with flats or prefolds, or supplement with disposables.

Keeping up with the washing

All those nappies need to be washed so if you can delegate washing to someone else for those first few weeks, or get someone else to take on some of the other household tasks to free you up, then that takes a lot of pressure off. This isn't possible for everyone; so waiting until things have settle down and nappy changes aren't so frequent can make sense for some.

Newborns grow so quickly!

No one wants to spend hundreds of dollars on nappies which will only be worn for a few weeks.

So what is the best way to approach nappying a newborn?

It comes down to what best suits you and your family, but here are some options:

- Use disposables for the first few weeks until you have bonded with your baby, established breastfeeding, and are starting to emerge from the fog of new motherhood. Then go straight into One Size nappies.

- Have a stash of newborn or small sized cloth nappies (work out how many you'll need based on how often you plan on washing) that will last around 3-6 months depending on the brand and the size/growth of your baby. Justify the expense by planning to use them on future children, or share your stash with a friend or sister - so long as your babies are not due at the same time!

- Plan to use One Size nappies from birth, but be prepared for some One Size nappies to not fit very well for the first few weeks. It is a state that generally only lasts until the baby has put on a little weight.

- Have prefolds and covers on hand for your newborn, to last until they move on to medium or One Size nappies.

- Take it easy on yourself and know that once you have a routine set up for your nappy washing it becomes a habit and much, much easier.

Baby Shoes for Infants and Toddlers

You have just become used to the idea of your baby crawling all over the place, pulling himself up on the furniture, opening cupboards and drawers, and maybe even attempting to scale the staircase. While these are exciting milestones in your infant's development, they can also be stressful for parents and caregivers. You have had to invest time and money into baby-proofing the house and always keep an extra watchful eye wherever your little one might venture to. Just when you get a routine down and feel like you may be able to breathe a sigh of relief, your child progresses to the next stage of growth: walking.

Walking is a milestone that varies among babies. While most begin walking between 9 and 12 months, some do so a bit later. Not to worry, though. Each baby develops at their own pace. It is important to be prepared for your baby's first steps, such as utilizing safety gates, having a camera ready, and purchasing the proper baby shoes.

The topic of baby shoes can present quite a discussion among parents. When do they need to start wearing them? What materials are best for growing feet? "Barefoot is best" before babies can walk seems to be the consensus among pediatricians and medical advisories. I'll admit, I kept my infant barefoot (or in socks if was cool) most of the time. However, there will be times when your child will wear shoes (even if they're not walking yet). I've purchased baby shoes for my infant daughter to complete a special outfit. Since she's started creeping and crawling I've put shoes on her outside of the home to protect her little feet. She's now officially cruising around furniture (and whatever else she can pull herself up on), so when we are out of the house I want baby shoes that will protect her feet. Here are five things to consider when purchasing baby shoes:

1. Soft - Soft leather instead of synthetic will allow tiny feet to breathe instead of causing them to sweat

2. Flexible- Again soft leather will allow the shoe to bend with your baby's foot; Baby shoes should be roomy enough to allow toes some wiggle room

3. Non-skid - Soles should be gripping, not smooth, to provide traction.

4. Supportive - Padded bottoms and a secure, but comfortable fit around the ankles, that stay on the feet.

5. Protective - A thick enough sole to guard little feet against outdoor elements like rocks and pebbles better than socks.

A wonderful collection of baby shoes for boys and girls is manufactured by JEMOS? footwear. JEMOS shoes are soft, flexible, non-skid, supportive, and protective. In addition, they come in a variety of colors and styles that will fit in well with any infant or toddler wardrobe of trendy baby clothes. They are created using leather furniture remnants and recycled materials are even used in the packaging. Not only are you providing your crawling or walking child with excellent footwear, you are giving Mother Nature a reason to smile.

Six Effective Tips on How to Choose Baby Car Seat Covers

There are several benefits of choosing genuine quality baby car seat covers. The most important reason is the baby's safety. In case of unavoidable circumstances such as navigating harsh turns, descending steep hills and road mishaps, it is quite difficult to take care of your baby just in time.

Infant car seat covers help protect your baby by gripping them against the seat. In addition to baby's protection, it is equally important to check his/her comfort. Sometime parents may mistake over buying irregular sizes.

In addition, some baby seat covers are manufactured using cheap materials to save on cost and may end up causing rashes on baby skin.

It is ideal to inspect the quality of fabric material as well as the cushion before purchasing infant car seat covers. Following are seven effective tips on how to choose the perfect baby car seat covers:

Go For The Perfect Look: Most babies are too small to talk about their color choices. However, a little closer inspection would make you understand their jolliness toward certain colors. You may choose seat covers in colors similar with their toys. In addition, avoid using dull or shaded colors, as they may upset your child. Apart from colors, you may look out for designs. There are several designs available in the market.
Quality of Fabric: Cotton is by large the most bio-friendly clothing material. It absorbs sweat and helps the body in maintaining thermostat through perspiration. In addition, some polyacrylic fabrics do help in regulating body sweat and do not cause bad odor. You may touch and feel the fabric's texture to test its comfort.
Washability: You may look for covers that are easy to wash. Babies can surprise you, as they lack ability to hold urine and stool. Therefore, the cover should hold body fluids without disturbing your child or spoiling the covers. Good quality cushioning and use of absorbent materials such as polyurethanes ideally make best choice for baby seat covers.
Cushion: If you own a driving license and drive on city highways, then you are no new to jerks. Most times, they show up suddenly and are unavoidable. Babies may respond differently to jerks. However, for their safety, it is ideal to place them in infant car seat covers that are well cushioned. Covers made of cushioning materials absorb shocks without causing injuries from jerks.
Fit and Design: Before choosing covers, it is ideal to try them on your babies. Infant car seat covers come in different styles and designs. It is advisable to check whether your child fits properly in the cover you choose. You may avoid covers that are too lose or tight. Check for your baby's comfort. Additionally, check if the strap covers are intact. You may prefer sturdy designs to colorful yet badly stitched ones. In case of accidents, strap holds your baby tight. Avoid lose straps and shabby fittings.
Prices: Owing to variety in covers, they are available in wide range of prices. You can find big differences between pricing of cheap and high quality fabrics. Disregard of their prices, most infant car seat covers go under stringent tests for safety and protection. Only after standing valid for safety, they are sold in the market. However, in case you have a habit of going on long drives on weekends with your baby, then you may choose high quality baby car seat covers. Quality fabrics provide comfort for extended periods. They are ideal for long distance drives.

Amazon Reviews Can Help You Buy Baby Strollers Better

If you are in the market for baby products and are interested in purchasing online, there may be a slight bit of apprehension that comes along with that decision. Whenever a parent, relative or friend wants to buy an item for a child, needless to say, you want to ensure that you getting the best possible product in terms of price, safety and the product doing what it claims. Baby strollers are no different.

It is difficult to ascertain the latter two items when a consumer makes a purchase online. It goes without saying, if you are making a purchase from your neighborhood retailer, you are able to touch, feel, and query the sales staff and if the product is not functional, you have the option of taking it back without paying excess shipping fees. However, the selection in this instance tends to be limited.

Buying items online has a certain convenience factor and this is why many consumers have shifted to making a lot of purchases online. However, this is also why most consumers choose to buy from trusted, online retailers. Amazon is one such online retailer. One thing that makes Amazon stand out from the rest of the online marketplace is their review section. All items that are purchased online have an option for the consumer to leave feedback or a review, good or bad. If you are in the market for expensive items like baby strollers, this can be invaluable.

This serves to give the consumer a balanced opinion on the product, not from the manufacturer but from the individuals who have bought the items. This feature is quite different from a lot of other retailers in the online sphere because in most, if not all, cases in order to post a review you must have purchased the product from Amazon.

By doing this, Amazon cuts down on the amount of bogus reviews, lending to the idea that whatever is written is an accurate, trustworthy testimonial. If the item is popular enough, there is usually quite a few reviews so that a person who is interested in buying a baby product can read through the reviews and then be able to form an opinion.

Besides, if a person has taken the time to write a review he or she must feel strongly about the product and a lot of credence should be given to that fact. In the case of baby strollers, you are able to read about another individual's experience with certain strollers; some reviewers understand the importance of conveying a thoughtful review that they are very detail oriented in describing why they may like, dislike, or are even neutral about a certain product like strollers.

Car Booster Seats

A combination booster seat and car seat would be the best choice if the child weighs upwards to forty pounds. This booster and car seat combo is made with a five-point harness that is detachable, and is comparable to the harness you would find in the standard car seat.

This is seen as the most secured kind of harness since its straps hold down the child both at their hips as well as at their shoulder. As such, if there is a crash, then the force of that collision will be dispersed to the body's strongest points. It is best for you to opt for a safety seat that comes with harness straps that have a number of different height settings. This should definitely be so, specifically if you have a tall child.

The older combination car booster seats should be avoided as their T-shaped shields distribute the force of the crash to the child's abdomen; one of the most defenseless regions of the child's body. These types of seats are both uncomfortable and unsafe for children.

If you have a tall child, the tray shield may be hard to fit over his/her head easily, and if the child is a little plump, then it more than likely will squash into their thighs and pinch their abdomen.

Backless and high-back and chair-style booster seats are the major kinds of safety seats available. The backless booster seat pushes the buttocks of the child so they are elevated in the seat of your car. The car booster seat you choose then will be largely reliant of the type of seats your car comes with. The high-back booster seat is the type that gives support to the head, buttocks, neck and torso of the child.

A high-back safety seat would therefore be more suited to a car with rear seats that has a back that is low. This will help to give support to the child's neck and head in the event of a crash to the back of the vehicle. Conversely, if the back seats are high and can lend support to the child's neck and head and have deep curves then the backless version would be more suited for your vehicle. It will stand of better chance than the high-back model in not falling over in the event of a collision.

The backless seats are recommended over the high-back booster seats by a number of motor vehicle safety specialists mainly because your child is able to sit farther back than they would have been able to sit in the high-back booster seat. However, if your child is more than forty pounds, then you should not purchase a backless booster seat that comes with the closure that is shield-styled.

We hope you share our concerns for your child's safety and we encourage all responsible parents to select a car booster seat or a child safety seat, suited to your child's appropriate needs. To assist in this process you can find out more about the right safety seats at carboosterseatstore.com where CHILD SAFETY IS OUR PASSION.

Nursery Rhymes - Where Have All The Traditional Ones Gone?

If you're reading this article you too, probably, have a toddler or two running around creating havoc. If, like me, you're wondering where all the traditional nursery rhymes have gone to, I'm here to remedy the situation!

Do you remember the traditional children's songs from your kindergarten years such as Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Baa Baa Black Sheep, Old MacDonald Had A Farm, Incy Wincy/Itsy Witsy Spider, ABC, etc? I assume that you remember them sung in a certain way, with different emphasis and stresses on certain keywords. You cannot forget the melodies either - impossible! In fact a lot of melodies are reused on multiple nursery rhymes such as Twinkle Twinkle has the same melody as the A, B, C Song and Baa Baa Black Sheep.

So you can imagine my horror when recently, when I was trying to entertain my youngest daughter (15 months old) with some videos on YouTube and almost none of these aforementioned kids' songs were as I recalled! Was my poor memory to blame here?

I wanted to show my baby all the nursery rhymes that I had grown up with, as did my own mother/father and theirs too. I was stunned (or should that read "shocked"?) to see how disastrously bad the vast majority of the online videos were. I mean they were really awful! At best, some were genuinely laugh out loud, but for all the wrong reasons(!) and at worst some were downright scary and perhaps not even suitable for young children. Perhaps the ratio of good:poor quality was around 1:40! Also I noticed that most of the YouTube nursery rhyme videos had incredibly long intros - 20, 30 or even more seconds of pre-ambling material, promotions and other irrelevant material before actually commencing the main theme. I probably don't need to tell you dear parent, that even just 20 seconds can seems like an incredibly long time when you have a wriggling and slightly bored baby on your lap!

Not only are the websites and animations mainly of an incredibly poor quality the actual songs and lyrics themselves were very often incorrect, as the singer/company's first language was often not actually English. Where had all the real nursery rhymes gone I wondered? There was very little online resources that mirrored my childhood memories. "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" had now become "Dwingle Dwingle" and the little boy from Baa Baa Black Sheep now lived in the lane (whatever that means!)

It's important that we don't lose our traditional songs to the unrelenting technological changes that allow anyone to upload any material they like to the internet. It's important that high standards are adhered to and that we pass our playground songs on accurately. I urge you to check out some of the nursery rhyme videos for yourself to see how awful they have become. You will laugh at some and cringe at others but after the initial laughter has died down you too will feel the sadness of your childhood memories becoming lost.

The number of views a video has received or where it appears in the search results unfortunately doesn't give any indication of quality. So, how to locate the good stuff and ignore the bad? My recommendations are as follows:
Go to YouTube (not Google) to searchUse the nursery rhyme's full name - i.e. "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" is better than "Twinkle Twinkle" and use speech marks around title.Adding the word "British" or "English" can really helpClick search options and under "Features" (far right) click High definition.

Inspired by the lack of quality nursery rhyme videos available and without any previous experience, I assembled a team of people: myself, husband and 2 daughters(!), to come up with a solution.

It was great fun (also expensive!) and at times it was very stressful project managing a remote team of animators, but we are hugely proud of the final result. Our hope and dream is to create more of these traditional nursery rhyme animations and upload them all to YouTube so that they become a free resource for one and all.

When To Choose Strollers For Toddlers

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Having a child is one of the most important things you will ever do. It's the most natural thing in the world to love them unconditionally, to laugh at them as they explore their environment, and to want to keep them safe as they grow. They grow up so quickly that it can be difficult to tell when they're ready for the next step, whether it's knowing when to wean them off the bottle or understanding the right time to buy a stroller.

There are lots of opinions on the best time to wean your child, but generally speaking, the best time to buy a stroller is when they start walking. Before that, it's easy enough for you to carry them around and they may or may not wish to be somewhat on their own.

However, once your child has begun to walk, he or she will also crave more independence. Buying safe dependable strollers for toddlers is the best of both worlds. Your child gets to feel more in control while you get to relax in the safety of your stroller selection.

So what should you look for in a stroller? Well, one of the most important features of a stroller is it's weight limit especially when buying at the toddler stage.

You don't want to waste money by purchasing a stroller that can only be used for a month or two. At a time when your child is growing at such a fast rate, it's important that your stroller be able to handle a weight of at least 40 to 45 pounds.

Another factor to consider is the way your child will feel when they are secured in the stroller. Nothing's worse than being stuck with a stroller that cannot comfortably accommodate your child.

You must consider the child's height as well as his or her weight when choosing a stroller. That's why you want to make sure that the stroller also has height-adjustable seat belts. This also extends the length of time that your child will be able to enjoy the stroller.

Along those lines, a stroller with a big seat is important, but toddlers usually start out larger. While a bassinet is clearly not a required feature, it's a good idea to buy a stroller with a snack holder and a drink holder for you and your child's convenience.

Decent strollers for toddlers are designed with you and your child's needs in mind, which is why their strollers include these all-important features. Make sure to add them to your checklist to make a smart selection.

Helping Baby Sleep Through the Night

Newborn babies need to eat regularly to be healthy and to gain the weight they need. Getting up in the night for those all-important feedings is an expected part of the routine for all new parents. As those first days and weeks turn into months, however, many parents start to ask themselves the important question, how to get baby to sleep through the night?

It is important to establish baby sleep patterns early in an infant's first year. Once a baby has outgrown the need for night-time feedings, sleeping through the night is healthy for her and also healthy for her tired parents.

Baby sleep problems can be very wearing. If you're wondering how to get your baby to sleep through the night, sleep training for babies is one option to consider. Sleep training usually consists of allowing baby to learn to calm herself back to sleep by gently patting her back but not picking her up when she wakes too often.

For some babies, waking too often is not the problem. For some babies simply calming down enough to sleep deeply is the hard part. These babies can benefit from a program developed by Dr. Harvey Karp. Dr. Karp's theory is that babies who are high-strung need to have the womb environment recreated around them in order to calm down and sleep well. The womb environment can be recreated with what Dr. Karp calls the "Five S's."

The first of the "Five S's" is "sucking," which is, of course, allowing a baby to suck on a bottle or pacifier. "Swinging" is the second S. A baby will be comforted by any swinging motion such as riding in a car or baby carrier. This gentle motion will remind her of the constant motion she felt in her mother's womb. The third S is referred to as "shushing." This means that babies are comforted by sounds that remind them of the constant, gentle noise of their mothers' heartbeats in the womb. The fourth S, "side," refers to the fact that most babies are more comfortable when they are lying on their left side. Once they are deeply asleep, their parents can roll them into the safer sleeping position of their back. The final S in Dr. Karp's program is "swaddling." Swaddling is the old-time practice of tightly wrapping a baby in a soft blanket. Wrapping a baby up this way allows them to once more feel the safe, enclosing walls of the womb.

If getting baby to sleep through the night has become a problem, new parents should try the "Five S" program. A baby who is calm and relaxed by reliving the comforting world of the womb will be much more likely to sleep through the night and baby sleep problems will, thankfully, be a thing of the past.

I am a mom of twins, and enjoy helping other parents (if asked) on how to deal with typical frustrations of raising a newborn. Toddler Craft Activities: More Than Just Glitter and Glue

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Toddler craft activities are a firm favourite at Christmas, Halloween and Easter time. Home-made cards and presents a far more meaningful for grandparents and other relatives and friends than mass-produced presents.

However art time is actually very beneficial for your toddler's development. This article looks at all the various aspects of this.

The first benefit to the child of doing any craft activity is the opportunity to handle different materials. This helps their understanding of the world around them.

Next is hand-eye coordination. You may think that nothing really fundamental is happening as your child slaps some paint onto the picture she is creating. This is especially true if she seems to be daubing the paint all over the place! Wrong. Isn't she painting rather in the same way that she eats? Do you think that when your child handles a spoon nothing is being developed? Of course it is.

The third reason to do toddler crafts is that helps develop social skills. Depending on the setup and other children present, your toddler will be learning to turn take, listen to instructions and learned from watching others.

Craft activities develop language. You have numerous opportunities to repeat important verbs such as stick, draw, colour etc. Then you can encourage your child to describe what he has created. "Green car," "big dog" etc.

Toddlers love to control their world, and crafts give them a much-needed sense of mastering their environment. Is this a far-fetched statement? Let me give you an example. To make Halloween card for grandma, you can offer your child a picture of a pumpkin to decorate. The simple act of choosing which design allows your child to feel in control of their world.

Finally, toddler craft activities give your child some quality time with you. As parents, we are continually divided in how we spend our time - in today's modern world it's too easy to hand your child over to the babysitter in the corner (a.k.a. the television). Making a card or collage with your child forces you to stop focus 100% on that quality time you dream about but never seem to get round finding. Being creative is relaxing not only for your child, but for you. Life with a toddler can often be stressful, and what better way to unwind than to do something together. You never know, you might even let your child out to play as well!

Child Safety In Cars

If you are a new parent, or have a child who is changing age groups, there may be some questions about what the safest way for them to ride in the car is. Children are very vulnerable and need to be seated securely and safely in any and all types of moving vehicles.

For infants, you want to have thin in a rear facing car seat when riding in the car. Their seat needs to be in the back seat not in the front. If they are in the front and something happens and the air bag deploys, the child can be badly injured. Children need to be in a rear-facing car safety seat until they are about two years old or have reached the highest weight or height as allowed by their safety seat. Once they are two years old, they can then sit in a forward-facing car safety seat. These come with harnesses. Toddlers and preschoolers should stay in these types of safety seats for as long as possible until they reach the maximum height and weight allowed for that car seat.

For school-aged children who no longer meet the requirements for a forward-facing car safety seat, they need to sit in a belt-positioning booster seat. This will help them sit comfortably with a seat belt until they are old enough to use the seat belt without a booster seat. When they are old enough or large enough to no longer sit in a booster seat, they should always use the lap and shoulder belt. Children under the age of 13 should always be sitting in the back seat and should be properly buckled in for optimum safety.

Safety around and in cars is just as important as being safely secured in the back seat. You should never leave a child in a hot car, it can result in heatstroke. Children and adults react differently to temperatures, so even if it feels OK to you, it can be fatal for your child. The same also goes for pets. You cannot leave your child in a locked car that is turned off even if you are just going to "run in and run out." Thinking that by even just running in or out will be OK can result in your child having a heat stroke. Also, don't allow your children to play in or around your car. If they somehow get trapped in the car, again, the result can be fatal. A car left in outside with no air conditioning or wind flow can instantly be at least 20 degrees warmer than it normally would be.

child safety in a car is very important, and should be taken very seriously. Children should never be standing in a moving vehicle, and should always be seated in the correct safety seats, and buckled in properly. Be sure to teach your kids how to be safe in a car and what to do in case of an emergency.

Born Free Glass Bottles - Are They Really The Best?

Today, many of us are embracing products that are more natural and less man made. We are becoming increasingly leery of all the chemicals that go into our systems on a day to day basis. No where are we more concerned about his than with our children. That may be why Born Free glass bottles are so popular with parents.

Born Free glass bottles, and their whole line of products, are all made of BPA free plastics. BPA or Bisphenol - A is a chemical compound that is used in the manufacture of hard plastics. These hard plastics are the very same that are often found in baby bottles and food storage units.

While their may not be conclusive evidence there is increasing concern that the BPA can leach off the plastic and into the food or drink that the bottles and containers hold. Over time, the worry is, that BPA can cause some developmental delays in kids.

While not everyone agrees (and when do they?) that this is a real problem, many people have just decided to steer clear of BPA products to play it safe. And why not, really what could it hurt to lessen the amount of chemicals your baby comes into contact with throughout their life?

Even though these bottles are made of glass, the collars and the vent free system is made of hard plastic. But, not to worry, it is BPA free hard plastic.

As a matter of fact, the full line of Born Free products which includes not only glass bottles but plastic bottles, sippy cups, collars, vent free systems, nipples, sanitizers and bottle brushes to name a few, are also all manufactured with BPA free plastics.

With the glass bottles made by Born Free you get a "mix and match" system. You can pick out either a 5 ounce or 9 ounce glass bottle, you get the venting and leak proof system, and you can add any one of 5 nipple designs.

Each nipple is geared to provide just the right flow rate of formula or breast milk for your baby.

Each level of nipple is geared to a certain age range and will provide a certain flow rate. The flow rates are from slow to medium and fast and there is even a Y cut design and a variable flow rate design. Pretty much anything you may need.

Get your child started off right, feed them with only safe and innovative Born Free glass bottles.

How I Survived Controlled Crying

Thinking of Controlled Crying?Do Not Know Where To Begin?Do Not Know If You Can Cope?

Then Read On.....

The thought of letting my babies cry put fear into me. When they were tiny I never let them cry, I picked them up, cuddled them, nursed them and played with them. My little ones also slept in the same bed as me. Prior to having my children I had plans to do the controlled crying and setting a strict routine from the start, but I failed miserably once my babies came. I DO NOT REGRET THIS. I loved the time I spent with them and could afford that undivided attention whilst on maternity. However I had to return to work and so for my own sanity I had to set a better routine.

When my first was 8 months I started the controlled crying and this was to stop the breast feeds during the night. After this was resolved I used the controlled crying to put my son to sleep in his cot in the evening at 7 pm. I then used it to get my son sleeping through the night in his own bed. With my second child again I waited until 6 months and then followed a similar pattern. Here are my survival tips.

1. Do Not Do It Alone

I could not have done this without the support and help of my husband. This helps you to stay strong, share the work and have someone to voice your anxiety to.

2. Have A Plan

We did not just go into controlled crying lightly. My husband and I sat down and discussed it. I had sought advice from my Health Visitor, friends who had also been through it and read up a lot on the internet. My husband and I then spoke and discussed areas that we wanted to adapt to make the controlled crying work for us. We then set a date and I spoke to my children beforehand telling them about what was to happen (which they probably did not understand)!

3. Follow It Through / Be Consistent

This can be a battle of wills. With my son he did not cry more than 20 minutes. However with my daughter, my husband and I have been up with her for 4 hours doing the controlled crying. If you give in your child learns that they have won so when it comes to doing it the next time then it is harder for you. Do not be put off by the 4 hours, the following night she cried for 1 hour and the after that for 15 minutes and then she went to sleep first time.

4. Our Method.

This is an adaptation to the real method as I was too chicken to do what I read and was told! I let my children cry for 5 minutes then went into the room saying 'Shhhh, it's night time, time to go to sleep.' If they were lying down I would stroke their hair and pat them until they calmed down, then I would kiss them and say 'love you, night, night' and leave the room.

If they continued to cry I let them cry for 10 minutes and repeat them process. However If they were sobbing and standing up in their cot asking for a cuddle I did pick them up to comfort them and then put them back to bed once they had settled (this is not recommended though). The literature I had read on controlled crying recommends increasing the crying time i.e. waiting for 15 minutes and then 20 minutes. However I found this quite hard so I just kept to the 10 minute cry down.

5. Every Child Is Different

Both of my children reacted differently to the controlled crying but we ended up with the same result. Adapt your approach to your child. My son would always cry after you left him but would go to sleep within minutes. My daughter never went to sleep crying, she always had to be comforted and at that point decide to just go to sleep.

I also found that my son wanted cuddled most of the time but my daughter was happy to be comforted through a stroke, a pat and some quiet words. I have also mentioned that my daughter was more determined and lasted hours longer with the controlled crying.

6. Do Not Be Put Off

I know that after the first night with my daughter, the thought of doing it again the second night terrified me. I felt terribly guilty as a Mum for putting my children through it and I also felt anxious at the thought of again very little sleep. This is why planning is key, only start controlled crying when you and your partner do not have work or any plans. I was lucky that the second night for both my children was significantly better than the first, which fills you with hope for the future. However I was warned that you can have 2 - 4 hard nights.

This is an emotive topic. The whole thought of letting your babies cry sounds horrendous. However babies in a secure environment with routines thrive, as do children. It could be argued that I should have done the controlled crying long before 6 months and a few of my friends who had adapted the Gine Ford method have contented children. They also had babies that slept through the night at a young age and went to sleep without being comforted to sleep.

Parenting is very subjective and I think the best parenting is to go with your instincts, research and adapt to suit you and your family as no method will work for all.

Let me know your thoughts as everyone will have different experiences and It will be nice to have a variety of ideas for any Parents considering the Controlled Crying Approach. My final words of advice are to STAY STRONG.

Selecting A Duvet Cover For Kids

Using a colorful duvet cover for kids' beds will provide variety to their bedroom and help spark their imagination. Aside from protecting the children's comforter from spills and various stains, duvet covers can be chosen with prints that will be fun for the children using them. Online stores offering bedding offer a wide range of covers which are both functional and fun in various styles and colors. If you let your child choose the duvet cover of their choice, you are providing them with the opportunity to express their individual personalities. A cover that excites your child will make him look forward to staying in his room at the end of the day.

A good duvet cover for kids' bedrooms should be made of 100% cotton and should be machine washable because getting them dry cleaned every time can prove to be expensive.. Those that are fully reversible from printed to a solid color are helpful if you want to save time between washings. It is easy to remove and replace covers, so you can decide to change your overall design idea or switch colors without a problem. When your child gets tired of animal prints, there are cartoon characters or robots prints you can choose from. Changing from a current duvet cover to another one will keep your child interested and rekindle his imagination. Children find joy in having their imaginary friends or pictures of toys with them when they go to sleep.

Duvet covers that are 100% cotton are affordable so you will be able to provide your child with various themes and colors, and they are reasonably easy to care for. This makes it simpler for you to keep up with the changing interests of your child and find their favorite theme without worrying too much about the costs.

The duvet cover for kids you choose should match the interest, gender and age of your child. Young girls love pink and colorful pastel colors like Taffy Candy and Strawberry Cordial Pink. They will also love choosing prints in neon colors. Little girls love the Cinderella theme, Ariel the Mermaid, Alice in Wonderland and other Fairy Tale characters or Dora the Explorer. Young boys will prefer the male cartoon characters like Sponge Bob, Ben 10, Blue's Clues or the old reliable Superheroes, Batman, Superman and Spider-man.

If your children are older, you can choose a duvet cover for kids with more sober colors. Older kids may prefer Tartan Red patterns or Hilton Head patterns. An older child may also be interested in animal prints or nature scenes with an African Safari theme or a Sports theme like a Grand Slam or a Soccer World duvet cover. Some kids are excited by danger, suspense and adventure and will be thrilled with a Jurassic Dinosaur theme for their cover. Robots and other techie themes will also excite a child's imagination for creativeness.

If you have a little princess, a duvet cover for kids who are fast growing up into young ladies could be embroidered flowers, fruits and fairies with a magical feel. They usually come with coordinated accessories in pastel colors. They are perfect for dainty and delicate little girls.
