Which Baby Monitor?

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

If you are not sure which baby monitor you should purchase, there are a few things you can think about to make your decision easier. The first thing I recommend that you think about is which type of infant monitor is suitable for what you need. The three main types of baby monitors are as follows:

Audio baby monitors - Those consist of a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter is placed in baby's nursery room while the receiver stays with you. You will then be able to hear any noises baby makes via the monitor.

Video baby monitors - Those consist of a small camera and a handheld television screen, and you will be able to hear and see baby with this device. Video monitors come with all different screen sizes, so if you decide to purchase a video monitor ensure you choose one which is large enough for you to view baby clearly.

Baby sensor monitors - Those usually consist of a sensor pad which is placed underneath baby's mattress, and an alarm unit which, depending on the model, is placed onto the side of the cot or is carried with the parent. Some baby sensor monitors are different and consist of a small device which is attached to baby's clothes or nappy. Baby sensor monitors sound an alarm usually after 20 seconds of no movement/breathing detected.

Another thing you should think about when choosing which baby monitor to purchase are the features available. There are basic infant monitors that come with limited features, and top of the range monitors which come with many useful extra features. One feature to consider is two-way talkback which allows you to communicate with your baby via the monitor. This means that you can respond to baby's cries with your voice via the infant monitor. There are many other features to consider such as night-light, and temperature display.

One other thing to consider is the price range. It's sometimes best to decide on a budget so that you do not end up spending more than you planned. If you set yourself a budget, you can search for the best baby monitor available within that price range.

If you have found a few infant monitor models that interest you but you are not able to come to the decision of which baby monitor you actually want to purchase, simply read reviews for the ones that interest you so you can find out which of them has the best ratings.

Nanny Baby Respiration Monitor BM02

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

The Nanny Baby Respiration Monitor BM02 has been tested in the maternity wards and is a certified medical device. It complies with 93/42/EC Device Directive. In the past Nanny has donated their Nanny Baby Respiration Monitor's to maternity wards as well as public funded nurseries.

The Nanny Baby Respiration Monitor BM02 consists of a sensor pad and an alarm unit. This baby sensor monitor is simple yet very effective, and helps to provide parents with peace of mind. The sensor pad is placed under baby's mattress and the alarm unit is fitted onto the side of the cot or mounted to a wall (depending on which you prefer). The sensor pad is suitable for use with mattresses up to 14cm deep. The Nanny Baby Monitor is powered by batteries and it therefore does not pose as any threat to baby (it would be a possible danger to baby if it was connected to the mains power). Nanny's ultra-sensitive pad is the largest sensor pad on the market, and you have the choice of adding a second sensor pad to cover more space in baby's cot which would be suitable if baby was mobile (can move around the cot on their own).

The Nanny Baby Monitor works by sounding an alarm to alert the parents if the little one were to stop breathing for 20 seconds. It also sounds the alarm if baby's breathing rate were to drop to below 8 breaths per minute. This baby monitor allows parents to relax a little and get a good night's sleep.

The Nanny Baby Respiration Monitor BM02 is designed to protect babies from apnoea. Apnoea is when baby forgets to breathe during their sleep. SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome), also known as cot death, kills around 300 babies per year in the UK (according to statistics). A baby sensor monitor could certainly help you to protect your baby from SIDS as you will be alerted if baby stops breathing. There are other things you can do to protect your little one from SIDS (prevention techniques), such as ensuring baby's nursery room is at the correct temperature (ideally 18°C).

The Nanny Baby Respiration Monitor BM02 has a low battery indicator on it. Batteries usually last about 6 months and are replaceable. There are three lights on the alarm unit; smiley face to show baby is breathing, a sad face to show no breathing/movement is detected, and a low battery light.

BabyMonitorsOnline are an online baby monitor store who also sell a wide range of other baby safety products.

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

When you are having a baby, there are two things that you need to think about. How would you like to feed your little one and what type of diapers would you like to use.

Will You Choose Breast Milk or Formula?

The two main choices that are open to you with regards to feeding your baby are to provide it with breast milk or to buy formula. Both methods have their advantages and disadvantages so it is important to decide what type of food you will provide. The decision may have already been made for you if you know that you want to get back to work quite soon after having the baby. Alternatively if you have the luxury of being a stay at home mom, then breastfeeding may be a great choice for you.

Will You Choose Reusable or Disposable Diapers?

As well as thinking about what type of milk you are going to feed your baby, you will want to figure out quite quickly what type of diapers you would prefer to use. The choices are purchasing a batch of reusable diapers which will most likely work out to be cheaper in the long run. However you will have to deal with the unpleasant task of washing many soiled diapers for quite some time. The alternative is to decide on the more popular choice of disposable diapers. This can work out to be a lot of money by the time your child is ready for potty training but the advantages include convenience and easy to use products.

Getting the Essential Equipment For A Newborn

You may have started to make a list of all the different bits and pieces you will require once the baby arrives. This will include the large items such as the right type of crib or cot, the best baby stroller, and the most suitable baby car seat. Smaller items that will be just as important include a baby changing mat, a travel cot, newborn baby-grows and other clothing, baby bottles and a diaper bag. It is a good idea to start purchasing as many things as you can before the baby arrives. A great solution to this shopping dilemma is if your family and friends throw you a baby shower. This is the perfect occasion to get all of the big ticket items purchased for you.

These are just a couple of the things that you will need to make a decision on once the baby arrives.

Let's Protect Them From The Heat

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

In the past years children would be covered even during the summer season. The common belief, in fact, was that they could be cold. Research confirms that newborns feel cold only in the first hours of life then, gradually, their thermoregulation system adapts to the temperature of the place they live. The excess of heat, though, could really bother small newborns. Their thermoregulation system is still not completely efficient and so it cannot disperse the heat accumulated inside the body. So children can be nervous, have a lack of appetite and have some lines of fever.

So it is important to guarantee our children the best comfort as possible, at home, in the car and when we go out. At home, in the hottest months, the temperature can reach more than 30 degrees. To mitigate the heat it is best to use a few tricks: the rooms, for example, must be ventilated well in the first hours of the morning, when it is cooler and the breeze cools them down taking away the sultriness and night heat. When the sun reaches the zenith, you can use grandma's trick: close the windows and lower the shutters. Sun curtains are very useful: with a contained expense they protect glass and walls from sun rays and this avoids that they heat the glass, transmitting heat to the inside of the home. The devices to mitigate heat, on the other hand, must be chosen well, establishing the real air cooling.

If the choice for refreshing falls on a fan, it must be placed with great attention, the air flow must not be aimed directly on the child's body and it must be kept on a medium low speed. The ceiling fan is to be preferred because it is regulated on the minimum speed: they do not reduce the temperature; they "move the air" as much as necessary to give the child a sensation of freshness. Air conditioning can be used in the respect of the basic rule that is valid for everyone, children and adults: the difference of temperature from outside and inside must not be more than 5 degrees. An excessive decrease of temperature can provoke cold diseases.

Great attention must be given when you go to stores or supermarkets, where the air conditioning is kept at excessive levels and the child could get sick. It is best to keep, in your bag or in a special pocket of the stroller, a sweater or a sweatshirt and a pair of socks, to quickly put on the child before entering somewhere that is too cold. To fight the outside heat one must avoid going out between 10 and 5, choosing for his hours of "air" moments that are cooler. At the park or at the beach it is preferable to go very early in the morning. When outdoors, it is best to choose streets with shade and with little traffic. The child must be protected from the heat even during trips in the car: if the car was under the sun before the baby gets in, it would be best to move it to the shade for at least fifteen minutes, to make the inside more comfortable. The rays of the sun must be screened with special "sun curtains" that are placed on the windows. The air-conditioning inside must be regulated to the right temperature, without lowering it too much and never aimed directly on the child.

Biodegradable Diapers, the Right Choice?

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Most parents around the world are having a hard time in choosing the right diaper that would fit for their babies. Babies as we know, come in different sizes and body structures - some are small while others are oversized, if not in between. While these parents are trying to find the best diapers, manufacturers do their part as well in improving the quality of products which they deliver that is, to provide the best comfort and fit possible to their target market. Like just these manufacturers, gDiapers thought of creating a product that is friendly to the environment as well. That is having corporate responsibility, as what they call it. Thus, biodegradable diapers were introduced in response to the plea to save our planet.

If you are among those parents that are having the same diaper dilemma, you should bear in mind some of these helpful tips in choosing the right diaper. Firstly, it is important that parents should take note of the comfort that babies would feel when wearing these diapers. Parents should never set aside comfort in exchange for style. Take note of wetness indicators to make sure that babies are not exposed for longer periods to urine stimulation. Diapers should allow vaporization of urine. These diapers must not induce sweating and cause odor otherwise, bacteria that cause irritation can thrive and there would be a high tendency that babies would contract urinary tract infection (UTI). Secondly, parents should remember is to choose diapers that are hypoallergenic and do not contain artificial scents or chemicals that can irritate their babies' skin. There are diapers that claim to be good for sensitive skins but actually, these can cause rashes. It is therefore best for parents to consult their pediatricians and examine diaper packages to check for these added chemicals. Purchase only trusted diaper brands like gDiapers. Otherwise known as green diapers, gDiapers are 100% biodegradable and do no have added chemicals. That is why, it is easier to dispose. Thirdly, choose diapers that have the maximum absorption level so that babies would not feel wet. Parents should make it sure that babies, especially during evenings, will not be disturbed in their sleep. Thus, the dryness should be ensured which can be contributed mainly to the diapers' absorption capacity. Having wet diapers can be burdensome to babies as they feel uncomfortable and can cause irritation as well. And lastly, the diaper's sizing and fitting should not be disregarded to avoid spillage of urine and poop. Babies can be very energetic. Crawling or walking babies most especially, should have ample protection as they move from time to time. The gDiapers are especially made to fit into your baby's gPants and keeps inserts in place.

By following these simple steps, you will not just have a healthy but happy baby as well. You would surely be grateful that gDiapers have conceptualized these biodegradable diapers and the world will thank you in return for caring for the environment.

The Benefits of Making Your Own Homemade Baby Food

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Preparing your baby's food is efficient, practical, and simple. Instead of going to spend your money on prepackaged baby meals, you can purchase meats, grains, and fresh grown produce. Your baby will be fed very good meals and you will be aware of the specific elements that are in his food. By doing this, your baby consumes the same meals that the rest of the family eats, but it is made in a method that is ideal for him. This can help the baby in the long run when he starts eating food like a toddler.

Choosing the Ideal Appliances

You would need particular accessories to prepare your baby's food. Many of this machines can be easily found in shops or could possibly be acquired online. The following are a couple of examples of the instruments you will require:

Hand Turning Food Mill with multiple blades for a variety of food textures. This is a portable appliance that is also commonly known as a food mill.

Baby Food Maker can be used to steam the baby's meal to ensure that it is correctly cooked. Also, it purees meats, greens, and fruits. In addition, the food can be saved easily in the instrument if you are in a hurry. Simply remember to put it in the refrigerator.

Baby Food Grinder is a really easy and affordable way to grind parts of your baby's meal. This grinder isn't going to offer you a choice in textures types for your baby's food. This component is not as functional as others, but it is low-priced.

Hand Blender is a commonly used electric kitchen appliance that purees the baby's meal just like a blender does. This machine enables you to blend foods in a bowl. This hand-held blender is frequently utilized in many kitchens.

Food Processor or Kitchen Blender is found in virtually every kitchen. These accessories work nicely for numerous cooking jobs. However they aren't ideal for making smaller sized portions.

A Good Fork is maybe the most simple kitchen gadget that is certainly present in everyone's kitchen and it does the work. You'll be able to easily mash foods like potatoes, bananas, squash, and avocados with a fork. If you do not have any of the special appliances available this can typically take care of the food preparation. If required, boil the veggies before mashing.

Some other Items could be necessary to produce your own homemade baby food and those contain plastic food containers and trays that are suitable for freezing.

Buy the Best Produce Possible

Pick fresh veggies and fruits preferably organically grown, and use them within a few days. If you can not get fresh produce, then frozen produce is just fine. Natural produce could be the best choice, yet it is higher priced.

You can start your homemade baby food with fruits such as apples, plums, bananas, prunes, peaches, apricots, pears, mangoes and blueberries. When preparing vegetables you could select asparagus, butternut squash, peas, avocados, corn, sweet potatoes, carrots, and green beans.

Food Preparation

After thoroughly washing the vegetables, cook them. Some fruits like prunes and apples must be pureed to soften. You can bake, boil or steam the fresh fruits or greens until they soften. When boiling the meal, use a small amount of water and when you can, use soup stock rather than water. The stock that you use in the baby food prep should have a small amount of seasoning.

Make sure that you pit and peel the produce well and strain the seeds. Many vegetables and fruits have their own liquid, making it simple to mash simply by introducing a touch of seasoning. As your baby starts adapting to the diverse textures of food, you will be able to transition him to more solid foods.

Grains such as millet or quinoa can also be ground or pureed in a grinder, but they need to be cooked using the directions on the food package. To prepare poultry and meat, trim the fat and eliminate all of the skin before cooking. After that, puree the well cooked meat or poultry in the blender. If the baby is almost a toddler, then you can cut the meat in little parts for him to chew.

It may sound like plenty of work, however it is cost efficient and much better for the baby. It is also how it was done in the past, before there was baby food in the local super market. Mom would make the family's meal and split the baby's part to make it with less seasoning. She would then need to mash, grind, or blend the food to be adequate for the baby to swallow. And, this is still the way that it is done in lot of countries.

Serving Methods for Your Baby

Serve the baby's meal at room or warm temperature. Taste it if you can to be sure it isn't too hot for the baby, particularly when using a microwave oven to heat the food. Only serve the amount that you feel that your baby can consume. Dump any remaining from the plate simply because you don't want to store inside the refrigerator any mix of bacteria from the saliva. The Germs can grow very soon on the food.

You should never put sugar on the baby's meal, and don't put syrup or honey because it may cause botulism. It is a type of food poisoning that can be fatal and these kinds of foods can be consumed when the child is older.

Lightly season the baby's food. Babies can take some seasoning and the baby meal does not need to be bland.

Don't forget to refrigerate the baby meal leftovers in a container. Try using the leftovers within two days. You may freeze the leftovers in freezer bags or freezer containers. Vegetables and fruits can be frozen in proper containers and can last approximately eight months. Fish, meat, and poultry will last a couple of months in the freezer.

To conclude, your baby will love and learn to consume your home-cooked meals, and this will be more useful to his nutrition. It's all a matter of dedicating a few days of the week to prepare and store the food. You are not going to only spend less money on groceries, but you will also be providing the best food for your baby.

Baby Weaning Advice - Introducing Solids To Your Baby's Diet

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

There will come a time in the first year of your baby's life, when you will need to introduce her to solid food. Initially milk will provide all the nutrients your baby needs, but there is only so much milk that a baby's stomach can hold and she will get to the point when a liquid feed does not produce enough calories to give her the energy that she now needs to crawl and eventually walk.

It is a natural progression for your baby to move onto solids and even though this is an important step, it should not be rushed, even though modern parents are constantly under pressure to make the change. You should look for the telltale signs that will signify your baby is ready. Your baby will seem to be unsatisfied with the milk you are giving her and may cry until she gets another feed; there is also a calming down of her desire to suck. The whole process of this change usually occurs around four to five months.

The first type of food you should give your baby, has to be fairly bland and semi-liquefied. It is a good idea at this stage to use a blender as home prepared food is a better and more healthy option than bought ready prepared baby meals. Ideal dishes include:

Blended bananas, apples or pears.

Blended potatoes, carrots and cauliflower.

Glutton free rice cereal.

Vegetable soup or lentil soup.

You don't need to sterilise all of the cooking utensils when your baby is starting to eat solids, but obviously you should maintain a high level of hygiene.

To initially start to wean you baby, you should give her two or three small spoonfuls of liquefied food with a normal milk feed. If you have a problem with your baby using a spoon, then you could try putting some food on your finger and introducing it gently to her mouth.

It may be at this stage that it becomes difficult to feed your baby with her sitting on your lap, so it is now that you should purchase a baby chair, which will make life a lot easier.

As soon as your baby accepts one or two different types of solid food, introduce different tastes and textures, as you child begins the journey from sucking to chewing. To satisfy your baby's thirst; plain water or diluted fruit juice is the ideal solution.

Tips for Planning Baby's Nursery

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

The time has come to start planning for your baby's nursery. This can be an exciting time for expectant parents. The first thing to do is decide what room will be the nursery. You may want your baby in a room close by to yours. This is more convenient for those parents who like to check on the baby often. Think about some items of furniture you would like to include in your nursery. You will have to have a crib of course. Depending on the size of the room and what you can afford, you probably would want to add a changing table and a dresser. If the room is big enough, a rocking chair is nice to have.

The next thing to think about is the color of your nursery and the theme. If you are using a theme, decide what bedding set you want to use to match your theme. Then you can decide on the color to paint your room that will compliment your bedding and theme. If you prefer not to use a theme, or don't know the sex of your baby yet, yellow and green are great neutral colors. You can even use combinations of colors. The color you choose to paint your baby's room can affect their mood and development.

Some colors have positive moods and some have negative moods. These are some examples of colors and their effects. White is a color that creates peace and serenity. Cream colors add warmth. You can always bring in color with your bedding and accessories. Blue usually exudes positive energy. Lighter blues are more peaceful. Believe it or not, the most relaxing of all colors is a soft green. Pink and violet are great girl colors but are better used as accents than painted on the wall. Bold pinks and violets can be distracting rather than soothing. Yellow can be over-stimulating and distracting. If you choose the pink, violet, or yellow, try to use the lightest shades you can.

Now that you have completed decorating the baby's nursery it is time to think about some of the basic baby items you will need. A few of these baby items you will need are crib sheets, crib blankets, mattress pad, receiving blankets, and infant wear. Babies go through at least 7 to 10 diapers a day. You can start to buy diapers but try not to buy too many newborn sizes because babies can grow out of these sizes quickly.

Buying Advice For The BumbleRide Indie Twin

AppId is over the quota

If you are looking for a super double stroller, the BumbleRide Indie Twin is a unit that you must consider. This thing is just great. The BumbleRide lets you do everything that you need to do with two kids. This includes visits to the park or sitting and watching an older siblings soccer game. The BumbleRide is designed for the way you live.

Kids First
The great thing about this double stroller is that it puts your kids first. Now don't get me wrong, I firmly believe that you should actually put your own needs first, then consider your kids. They are pretty flexible for the most part. But it's also great when the stroller manufacturers remember to make your kids first class citizens with comfort and big canopies.

Big Flexible Seats
As an example consider the seats. First and foremost, they are large. This is important because that tends to make them more comfortable but also because it future proofs your investment. I don't know about you, but I like to buy the right thing once and only once. They are also very flexible. This is important because I have found that rarely are my two children either awake or asleep at the same time. When the infant goes off to sleep, she can lie back and relax, but the 2 year old can sit up straight if he wants and vice versa of course.

Stylish
Another very nice feature of the BumbleRide Indie twin is the ability to choose different colours. It might seem like a small thing for for a stroller of this caliber but it should be the case. It's generally available in green, black, blue, pink, red and a few other colors.

All Terrain Tires
This double stroller comes with 12 inch air filled tires. Yes, it does help make the ride more comfortable for your kids, but just as importantly it makes it easier to bump the Indie over rough terrain. This is important if you like the nature trails or even rough grass. I like to take my kids everywhere I go and this makes it easier. It also pushes through snow and slush much easier.

Sun Screens
The canopies that come with the BumbleRide Indie twin are not just ordinary canopies. First of all they are large and flexible, but as importantly they are actually spf rated. That means the have been tested for their ability to screen out harmful ultra violet rays.

Car Seats
I'm not a big believer in leaving kids in the car seats in the stroller. There actually been cases of asphyxiation from the child's head leaning over too far for too long. But there are times when baby is asleep and you want her to stay sleeping in the car seat. The Indie Twin can take several of the most popular car seats including the graco, chicco and peg perego models.

The BumbleRide Indie Twin is an awesome stroller. Check out more great features of the Bumbleride Indie Twin by clicking here.

Shopping For Baby Things - 3 Top Items For Your Baby Shopping List

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

There are so magazines and books that tell you about all the different items that you will need for your baby. It can be a little overwhelming especially if you do not have anyone to ask and you are relying on the information provided in these books, magazines and television programs. The most important thing that you need to remember is that whatever you need to shop for, you will always be able to find items that are within your price range. The second thing to keep in mind is that there are plenty of items that are completely irrelevant and are not essential.

Here a brief list of three of the most vital items that should be on your shopping list. If you can, it is a good idea to get everything before the baby arrives as you will find that you just won't have the time or energy to go shopping once you have your newborn.

Buy a Baby Cot

You will need somewhere for your little one to sleep. You can choose to purchase a cot or a cot bed. The first is your basic baby cot which will work out to be much cheaper and the second is able to transform into a bed, once your baby is a little older. This will initially cost you more but could work out to be the best option in the long run.

Buy a Baby Changing Mat

You will want to have something that is comfortable for your baby to lie on while you are changing nappies. It is very important that the mat is waterproof and easy to clean. If you can, you should try and find a multi purpose mat that you can fold up and take with you when you are out and about with your baby. This makes is so much easier if you need to create a mini changing station where ever you happen to be.

Buy a Baby Car Seat

This is one of the most important items that you will ever need. It used to be the norm that a parent could hold their child in their arms while seating in the back seat of a car. Times have indeed changed and it is essential to have a sturdy baby seat that is fitted into your vehicle properly.

There are plenty of other things that need to be placed on your shopping list. Once you have the basic items, you can indulge in the added treats that are not absolutely necessary but are fun to share with baby.

Daycare Hardwood and Metal Baby Cribs - What Parents Need to Know

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

When deciding upon a baby daycare center, many concerns come to the minds of parents. Among them, the staffing, efficiency, adequate training in caring for infants and toddlers, the quality of care and cost etc. But the most important factor is the sleep time accommodation.

A legitimate and properly run baby daycare, should make its number one priority, your baby's safety. Because sleep time is one major focus of your choice of a satisfactory baby daycare, their baby cribs, being one of the important, if not the most important accommodation could be made from hardwood or metal. However, just finding a baby daycare center that carry hardwood or metal baby cribs is not enough.

Daycare cribs are made in different styles, and possible shapes for different reasons, purposes or even preferences. For instance, a daycare crib that is made for a baby with special needs, because of its use or purpose, may have a specific shape or design. But regardless of the shape, design, style or purpose, you need to look out for, or pay close attention to making certain that parents needs are met, and their concerns satisfied. In complying with those needs, daycare cribs should meet Government regulations and standards, and are ideal for a baby daycare center.

If the daycare center carries cribs that are made of wood or metal, check to make certain that the wooden material is solid with no rough edges or corners, and no splinters or peeling paint, since these defects or hazards can cause injury, harm such as lead poisoning, or even death to your baby. It is easier to detect such defects or hazards on a white solid wooden crib. If a metal crib is your choice, make certain to check to see that the material is indeed metal, and not silver painted hard plastic to give the appearance of metal.

Some daycare cribs are made with wheels. This is a great feature because it gives easy access to, or mobility for linen changing and cleaning between the cribs. However, even though a daycare crib with wheels instead of a plain wooden or metal leg provides mobility, your baby's safety comes first. Make certain that the wheels are made from metal instead of plastic, and that they are made with a safety lock mechanism.

Two other important factors you should keep in mind when examining cribs in a daycare center are the mattresses and linens. The mattresses should not be too soft or too firm. Additionally, they should fit snuggly or tightly onto the cribs frames. Likewise, the mattresses for daycare cribs should not be smaller than the frame of the cribs, as this can cause them to shuffle about easily by toddlers, thus causing unexpected falls or serious injury to your baby.

At reliablecribs.com you can find a large variety and supply of Hardwood Baby cribs, Metal Baby cribs and Baby Play Yards that are ideal for Daycare Centers.
Changing Stations, that are ideal for Hotels, Food Shopping Centers, Shopping Malls, or any private area outside of the home for changing your baby or toddler. Baby cribs, Play Yards and much more baby needs for the home. Each meeting all Government regulations as well as parents satisfaction.

When Your Baby Refuses to Nurse

AppId is over the quota

What to do if your baby is refusing to nurse

Babies can refuse to nurse for many reasons. As babies get older, their habits change and so does their appetite. You may have a growth spurt around the age of six months and be hit with a nursing strike around the same time. A nursing strike is temporary but it can be upsetting to a new mom when her precious baby refuses to nurse. Another reason for refusing the breast is the baby could have some stress causing an aversion to the breast. Examples of this are when the baby bites and you react out of surprise, it may scare him and cause him to want to avoid this happening again. So he avoids the breast to avoid this unpleasant occurrence.

Does the baby cry and push away from the breast?

If the baby screams and pushes away from the breast repeatedly this could signal an aversion to the breast. This type of situation is best solved by spending more time bonding with your baby. It is your breastfeeding relationship that needs fixing.

Alternatively, does he nurse for a few minutes and pull away?

Sometimes when a baby is very hungry, he gets agitated and it may take some time to calm him down to where he will nurse. If this happens, hold him for a few minutes until he settles down and try again. If he nurses and then pulls away, it could be that you have a strong let-down reflex and he is getting too much milk at once. To solve this problem express or pump a little milk prior to nursing. The milk reflex can be quite strong but only lasts a few minutes. Once the milk has slowed down you can put baby to the breast and it should be fine.

Normally the breasts adjust to your baby's feeding habits and make just the right amount of milk based on supply and demand. When the baby is hungrier than usual and wants to nurse more the breasts respond to this demand for more milk by producing more. This may not happen immediately but you should see an increase within 48 hours.

Give your baby more attention

If you have recently returned to work he may be noticing the stress you feel at having to be away during the day. When you are home, give them as much attention as possible. While doing the household chores, put the baby in a baby wrap or sling instead of putting him in the crib or playpen while you work. He will enjoy the closeness and the extra time he gets to spend with you.

Let him nurse when he wants

A good time to try to get the baby back on the breast is during nighttime feedings. A sleepy baby will often accept the breast and nurse himself to sleep. If he refuses during the day but nurses at night just go with it. As he gets used to nursing at night, the first early morning feeding will get the ball rolling again. Do not worry if he still refuses to nurse during the day as this is usually a temporary situation that will eventually work itself out.

Pump every time you give a bottle to maintain your milk supply

While you are working this problem out you will need to keep up your milk supply. You can pump and store feeding for your baby in the refrigerator or freezer for later use. Breast milk production works off supply and demand so when you give a bottle you need to pump that feeding or your body will think he did not need it and will start to slow down production.

Keep your chin up! These types of situations are only temporary. For more tips and information on breastfeeding, I invite you to read How to Survive Nursing Strikes or visit my blog Over 40 Motherhood

How to Achieve a Good Bedtime Routine

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

I love my children very much, however I do look forward to a few hours in the evening where my husband and I can have a chat or read a book or watch a TV programme without interruptions. I therefore value the time after I have put my children to bed. A good night's sleep is also good for children. Every parent will have experienced the tired, irritated child and know that the bad behaviour they are displaying is solely due to the fact that they are tired.

Advice on Bedtime Routines.

1. Wind Down Time: The whole bedtime routine experience should be about unwinding. Children need an hour to help them relax and get ready for sleep.

2. Routine: As long as you observe the key principles of winding down and chilling out then it doesn't matter how you do it so long as it is a routine that your child recognises as a signal for going to bed.

Please remember that bedtime routines do not just happen and there is no magic answer. It will take time and practise to establish a bedtime routine, however once it has been achieved, the process of your child going to bed will become a whole lot easier.

The following ideas are from the bedtime routine we have in our house.

Watch a Children's Programme: Generally and as a professional I would say no TV during the wind down hour, however part of our routine is watching 'In The Night Garden' on CBeebies, which my 2-year-old loves. Whilst this is on I run a bath and tidy up the living room of children's toys.

Have a Bath: I use this time to talk to my children about their day and we also sing some songs. I have bought and tried the bedtime bubble bath and soap and do not find it makes any difference with my children, however the lavender scent may work for you children.

Drink: If your child suffers from enuresis (nighttime wetting) you may not want to do this. I usually make my children a hot milky drink, which helps me to ensure they are getting enough milk in their diet.

Toilet and Teeth: Need I say anymore!

Bedtime Story: This is my children's favourite part of the routine. They each choose a story and we read it, sometimes there is a fight as to whose story we read first or whose bedroom we do it in so I make a mental note of whose turn it is.

Cuddle, Kiss and 'I Love You': Goes without saying!

Music: This is frowned upon and as a professional I wouldn't advise it, however both my children like to have something on in the background as they go to sleep. My oldest doesn't like being upstairs himself and we allowed a story CD to play in his room as he was going to sleep and this helped him to not feel scared. Our 2-year-old likes to listen to Classic FM. My rules to the children are that it is either a short story or classical music. I will also mention that both of them will go to sleep without the CD player when they wake up during the night and also when we are away.

I find that the children take ownership of the routine once it is established and they feel part of it. They can do this by getting their night clothes and choosing their bedtime story. I have used Sticker Rewards Charts in the past to help settle the children into the bedtime routine. I also use this method when we go on holidays or have come back form holidays to ensure that the routine is maintained.

It is important that children at school go to bed at a reasonable time to ensure that they get enough sleep for school. I tend to let my children stay up an hour or so later at the weekend, with them going to bed between 8 and 9 pm. However we try wherever possible to keep to the routine.

My website offers advice and tips on everyday parenting with product and children's book reviews.

Toys and Playthings for Your Babies

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Freedom to get moving and eventually to start exploring is more important to babies during this age-period than actual toys. Many of the playthings suggested for younger babies will please this age-group in new ways once they can sit up alone to manipulate them and crawl across the floor to find them. However, a few new things will give your baby particular pleasure because they are especially appropriate to this stage of development.

Once she can crawl, your baby will much enjoy things that roll along. Whether they are actual balls, wheeled toys or household objects such as small cans, she will crawl to get hold of them and soon learn to push them and then give chase. Choose large objects (no marbles, however much she would like them) and check all wheeled toys for sharp or protruding pieces, especially around the axles.

Learning to let go of objects at will is an unexpectedly important passport to new kinds of play. Your baby will enjoy dropping things out of her high chair or stroller. She will learn to throw things, and that can include permitted and shared games with beanbags or foam balls, to balance the forbidden jokes like throwing things out of your shopping cart as fast as you put them in. Above all, she will begin to enjoy putting things into containers and emptying them out again. You can buy pots of safe, interesting objects for this purpose, but small blocks and a shoe box or oranges and a basket are just as good.

As she learns about cause and effect and discovers her own power over objects, your baby may also begin to enjoy simple musical instruments such as a drum, tambourine, maraca and xylophone. Some babies are still alarmed by sudden sounds, but many enjoy the noise such an instrument makes (even if adults do not) and revel in the realization that it was their own actions that produced the sound and that they can produce it again whenever they please. Even if your baby is not an enthusiastic early musician, she need not miss out on joyous sense of power. Offer her some toys which do something when a button is pushed or a lever is pulled, or start her on this particular journey of discovery by finding her a jointed "dancing doll" whose limbs move if she pulls the strong, or a duck that quacks when she pushes it. And whenever she does something with a toy, tell her what she's done and what is happening.

As her linked understanding of speech and of concepts such as "up" and "down" and "full" and "empty" increases, books, and the kinds of talk that go with "reading to" a baby this age, become more and more important. Show her (ask her) where the dog or the daddy is in the picture: pop-up and lift-the-flap books will probably become her favorite. Tell her (and ask her) what the cat or the cow says. Read her some rhymes for their rhythms and jokes. Do some action games that end with a surprise tickle; games that name fingers and toes and noses and ears will help her both to be aware of different parts of her own body and to learn the names of them.

Bugaboo Cameleon Stroller - For An Active Lifestyle

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

The Bugaboo Cameleon Stroller is a first class baby stroller. If you live an active lifestyle and have kids, you will want to seriously consider this stroller. It's light, easy to maneuver, a cinch to take apart and put together, takes a car seat, comes with a seat and bassinet and it's easy to look at also! My experience with it has been excellent.

Super Stroller

I've had a Bugaboo product for almost 6 years now. It has managed to survive three of my children (so far) and looks virtually as good now as it did when I bought it. I am not kidding. This stroller has not spent it's life being coddled, quite the opposite. In fact, it is the one piece of equipment that suffers the most abuse in our household.

Built to Last

It gets pitched in and out of our minivan daily, gets regularly abandon in the rain outside the front door and has more than once been bumped into or banged into by garage doors and automobiles. Our Bugaboo Cameleon has braved the snow and ice and also ferried my children up and down the beach. The key to using it this way is to either lock those front wheels or put the big wheels first by flipping the handlebar. Otherwise use it in wheelbarrow mode on two wheels.

For Active People

If you are active like us, then you will really appreciate this stroller. Having said that, it is not a jogging stroller. Don't use it for jogging. But if you like nature trails, it's great, because you can put the big wheels first. If you want to haul your kids on the beach, then it has a two wheel configuration that carries the stroller and passenger only on the largest wheels. This makes it super easy to pull through the sand.

Great Traveller

We also travel a lot. We go to Disney, the Caribbean islands, Europe and elsewhere. Any stroller can of course accommodate travel. But due to the fact that this units folds down so nicely and is light, it makes a great travel companion. For example, you will end up stowing your stroller on the plane. You can take this unit right up to the plane door, then disassemble it for easy storage. If you are in Europe and get a small rental car, you want to be able to fold it down tightly and stick in those small trunks. If you are taking the Disney shuttles from park to park you want to be able to easily get it on and off the bus. The Bugaboo Cameleon is perfect for that.

If you are active and looking for a great stroller, then consider the Bugaboo family. You won't be sorry.

J. Murray has a thing for strollers. He has tested, owned, rented and borrowed a lot of them. Check out his product reviews on the Bugaboo Camelon Stroller right now!

Samsung Wireless Security Monitoring System Review

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

The Samsung Wireless Security Monitoring System is one of the few video baby monitors on the market that offers digital frequency hop technology. Digital signals can be affected by other digital devices such as cordless phones, wireless routers, microwaves, walkie talkies etc. Hop technology means that your signal is both secure and private and free from interference. It has a signal range of up to 330 feet.

The video monitor is very easy to use and gives great day time picture quality on its generous high resolution 3.5" LCD monitor. As the lights gets low, the integrated infrared LED's give clear automatic black and white night vision of up to 10 feet. Night vision capability is extremely important to many parents when choosing a video baby monitor as it allows them to keep a check on their baby during the night without having to get up.

People who bought this video baby monitor were really impressed by the excellent picture quality, but some did complain that the audio sounded a little tinny. Given that most reviewers seemed perfectly satisfied with the audio quality, the tinny sound could be because the sound is not within the range of the camera microphone. Another reason could be that the batteries were low which can cause the current supply to become unstable and affect the quality of both video and audio.

Another important feature available with this Samsung monitor is the two-way talk back function that allows you to talk to your baby through the monitor and be heard through the camera. If your little one is crying or restless, you can soothe him or her without having to go into the room.

Some other neat features include four preloaded lullabies, zoom, temperature sensor and night light which some customers really like. Also the Samsung monitor is expandable to up to 4 cameras for viewing multiple rooms, great for an expanding family. A point to note is that many customers said that the room temperature sensor was incorrect, 10 degrees warmer, and that the lullabies sounded tinny and annoying. It's great to have these features, but some felt they were a waste of time.

As far as portability is concerned, the monitor has a flip stand so that you can easily place it on flat surfaces. However, unlike other units it doesn't have a belt clip so you cannot can carry it around hands free whilst out in the garden or busy moving around the house.

On the whole customers were extremely satisfied with both the day and night vision images and together with a private, secure and interference free reception makes this a video baby monitor worth considering.

Check out my Samsung Wireless Monitoring System Review for more information on features, pros and cons. See how it compares to other models before you buy with our detailed, in-depth video baby monitor reviews.

Bugaboo Stroller - The Best Choice In Strollers

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

There are only a few bugaboo products, strollers in particular, that are made. But in my experience, every one of them that I have tried has been excellent. If you have a new family, or even if you are just trying a new stroller you owe it to yourself to check out the Bugaboo Stroller family.

Criteria By Which To Choose

There are some key criteria that I used when buying our first stroller. First of all think about the age of your child. Not just now but into the future. In my experience, kids need and like a stroller right up until they are about 4 years old. At 4, they aren't using it much, but on a day long walk, your child will probably still want a break.

Buying Habits

Also consider your buying habits. I like nice things that are well constructed and will last. I will pay a premium up front for quality. You pay either way, whether you pay upfront or buy poor products multiple times.

Your Budget

Consider your budget, but don't obsess over it. Don't be afraid to spend a little more on good stuff. You are going to have it for a long time. If you have multiple kids several years apart, you can easily be using your bugaboo stroller for ten years or more! We had our kids close together and it's been 6 years and we are still using it. Think about that.

Design First

The Bugaboo products, from my experience, put design first. They are not simply slapped together products that include wheels and a seat. They have designed the Bugaboo to be easy to use for you, the parent. The truth is, your child will be comfortable and safe in virtually any product. The real difference is how you, the parent, live and use your equipment.

Choose Based On Lifestyle

The Bugaboo stroller, whether it's the Bee, the Cameleon ( the one we use) or the Donkey is designed according to the lifestyle of the people using them, rather than just the needs of your baby. For example the Cameleon is a stroller that will disassemble and fold down to minimum foot print. That's not uncommon with strollers. However, with the Cameleon it's very easy to detach the bit and pieces, the wheels, the seat and bassinet as well as any accessories. Folding up the chassis takes zero effort.

More importantly it's very easy to be sure it's been put back together correctly. The thing makes a distinctive click when it's being reassembled. That's just awesome.

The Bugaboo stroller line up in my opinion has more pluses then negatives. Check out my reviews to learn more.

Gerard Murray loves the Bugaboo stroller product lineup. It's an affection that has been well earned. Click here to learn more.

Unique Baby Items Wholesale: Buying Without Compromising Quality

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Looking to buy unique baby items wholesale? Welcome to your comprehensive guide to finding an ideal retail partnership. With so many companies to choose from, how will you know the right fit?

Most moms know the trick to coaxing a child to eat a sandwich - cut the crust off. Connecting with your manufacturer should be better than peas and carrots; it should be a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. No crust, please.

My Buddy and Me

A quality wholesale distributor does not have the intention of gaining the upper hand with their customers. They want to establish an equally beneficial partnership, resulting in more business and profit for all involved. If you are browsing websites, a great indication of this will be a solid mission statement that gives a brief description of their goals. Do they include how they are going to make this process easy for you? If you want to sell adorable and irresistible baby clothes, then it should be fun.

"You can't build a reputation on what you're going to do." - Henry Ford

A manufacturer with a positive reputation is more likely to stand behind their products, no matter what. Check for featured articles in publications, charitable contributions, undeniable reviews, and an emphasized customer service policy.

Get Creative

Sifting through darling little outfits and accessories is enough to make anyone say, "Awwww!" but are they unique? A host of baby products and gift items are available for retailers. Open a wholesale account that gives you access to the hottest new trends, and your customers will come crawling back for more. When they learn how to walk from that crawl, you are really in business.

Flutter with the Social Butterflies

Facebook and other social networking sites like Twitter, MySpace, and Blogger are the ideal place to post those charming baby photos. You know you cannot resist sharing the "Spaghetti Bowl Over the Head Incident"!

Your manufacturer should also use them to reach out and stay connected with you. Posting updates of new clothes as they come out keeps you in the loop, expands your inventory, and allows you to share the same information with your own customers with the click of your mouse. A computer savvy wholesale company opens the door for so many sales opportunities.

Buckle Up for Safety

Safety comes first with any product, especially infant and children's goods. The company you form a partnership with should have absolute confidence in what they are selling, and ease your worries about the merchandise you will be retailing. Verify that all products either meet or exceed United States Safety Standards.

Do You Trust Me? Circle yes or no.

Trustworthy businesses will not only have a privacy policy; you can double-dog dare them to prove it. If you want to place inventory orders online, make sure they are protected by an SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) to keep your financial information guarded. Also, no tattle tales. Selling or sharing retailer's contact information calls for a serious time-out.

To use this guide's basic tips, find unique baby items wholesale and baby clothes wholesale by teaming up with an excellent distributor.

Adding Wholesale Baby Accessories to Your Baby Boutique

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Wholesale baby accessories add that extra touch that ties everything together in your baby boutique. Stocking complementing products increases your opportunity for up selling, particularly when customers purchase clothing with coordinating colors and prints they can layer as a set. Building a complete gift thoroughly adds a personal flair that is unmatched. For your best chance at business success, consider some of these irresistibly charming items.

Creating an Ensemble

Rarely do you see an outfit on display with a sign next to it that reads, "Well that's all, folks!" Wholesale companies are always eager to provide delightful baby accessories, using similar prints or hues. A fashion-forward baby dressed in a full ensemble is absolutely endearing. Matching bibs with clever sayings or appealing designs are for the practical mom in favor of expression. Hats are incredibly popular in numerous styles, from standard baseball caps, to knit beanies and floppy boat hats.

Whether it is plain or sporting huge pompom balls that tie under an infant's chin, it is by far the most delightful way to protect a little one's head from the sun. Little girls' headbands and hairpieces are a common boutique favorite (even if they do not have a full-head of hair yet!). Other additions for girls' dresses are colorful or lace accented tights and socks with timeless Mary Jane's.

Welcome to the World

New parents celebrate bringing their newborn home to a fully decorated and themed nursery. From the paint color on the walls to the stuffed elephant positioned in the corner of the crib, on top of the blanket Grandma knitted for the new arrival. This day is starting a new chapter for everyone involved, and it should be obvious to all why the full picture needs to be just right. Parents strive to create a soothing and visually appealing nursery for their children. From the bedding and pillows with corresponding mobile hanging above it, to the dolls, rattles, and plush toys - all have a "home" inside your infant's room.

As the child graduates from crib to bed, parents welcome the toddler years as they hunt for all new decor, such as growth charts to hang on the wall, personalized with the child's name. Diaper changing tables make way for new piggy banks and tooth (fairy) holders.

Preparing to Add New Inventory

Your wholesale baby accessories should come from a manufacturer that knows how to merchandise them properly. This means brilliantly planned and executed packaging, labels, and POP (Point of Purchase) displays to showcase items in ways to which customers will respond as they browse your store. Racks and other assorted shaped containers or baskets are recommended for displaying more petite items that do not transfer well on a shelf or hanging on a rack. Search for companies with unique and innovative products designed in collections. Promote layered gift giving to optimize your inventory selection and volume of sales.

Wholesale baby accessories are a monumental means of kicking add-on sales into high gear for baby boutiques.

What To Look For In A Running Stroller, AKA Fixed Wheel Jogging Stroller

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

When it comes to comparing running strollers, aka fixed wheel jogging strollers, there are a few things to keep in mind. First of all, safety features. You want to make sure it includes a hand brake, parking brake, child safety harness, reflectors of some sort, and a running leash. These safety features usually come standard, however it's still a good thing to check. Also, deep seats are best, and protective sun canopies are a must. Most running strollers also offer plush suspension systems, but the addition of shock absorbers gives you an even smoother ride. Also look for a decent sized under-seat storage basket. Most of these jogging strollers come with limited storage, but the under seat basket is usually always present. Also, 16 inch wheels are pretty standard as well, but quick release wheels definitely come in handy when it comes to transporting them in your vehicle. Plus, running strollers will always have a front fixed wheel, unlike the all-terrain strollers that come with a swivel wheel.

Additional features to look for that don't come standard on most fixed wheel joggers, but are definitely nice to have are, a reclining seat, adjustable handle bar, and an easy fold design. Some running strollers also offer extra features such as, a pedometer, parent trays with cup holders and an organizer pocket, as well as child trays.

To recap, standard features include:

· Fixed front wheel

· Child safety harness

· Hand brake

· Parking brake

· Running leash, aka tether strap

· Reflectors

· Protective sun canopies

· Under-seat storage

· 16-inch wheels - quick release

· Suspension system

Extra features may include:

· Shock absorbers - gives you an extra smooth ride

· Quick fold design - fold locks are especially nice

· Reclining seat

· Adjustable handle bar

· Pedometer - not found on most running strollers

· Parent tray and child's tray - also not standard, but a nice touch

In the end, what's most important is that you find a durable, high quality running stroller that will stand up to the abuse you intend to put it through. That's why a fixed wheel is best for running, it's the most durable. Aside from safety, comfort is a priority, so make sure your running stroller is comfortable for both you and your little one. One last thought, fixed wheel jogging strollers can be quite expensive, so if a pricey one catches your eye make sure the maximum weight capacity is over 50 pounds, that way you'll be able to use it for a long time.

Choosing the Best Video Baby Monitor: Analog Vs Digital

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

There are definitely a few things to consider when it comes to choosing the best video baby monitor for you. You need to think about what type of monitor is best for your home, what your budget is and then what features you consider are must haves. This article is first and foremost about how to choose the right type of video monitor and the considerations you need to think about before you do.

A video baby monitor is basically a radio transmitter which runs on a wireless system using radio frequencies. In North America the most common frequencies are around 49 MHz, 900 MHZ and 2.4GHz. There are two types of transmissions used - analog and digital.

Analog transmission has been around for a very long time. The signal works like a continuous wave that fluctuates infinitely within its frequency range which takes up bandwidth. This worked well for many decades, but with all the wireless devices around now, the analog signal has become harder to transmit and susceptible to interference. Also analog transmission can be easily picked up by other baby monitor receivers, presenting a risk to privacy as long as it's turned on. Most analog transmissions run on 900 MHz frequency.

The newer kid on the block is digital technology which is easier to transmit and more reliable. The signal is conveyed usually through a binary code which sends it as series of on/off electrical impulses and then put back together in the correct order. The majority of digital video baby monitors use a 2.4GHz frequency. Even though digital transmission is more reliable, it's still open to interference as many other wireless devices you many have in your home use the same frequency.

If you're after an interference free and secure digital signal, then look out for baby video monitors that have frequency-hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) technology, also known as frequency hopping. It works by transmitting radio signals rapidly between many frequency channels which makes it much more secure. Video baby monitors with frequency hopping do tend to more expensive.

Analog vs Digital? Which technology is right for you.

Analog monitors are more affordable, but are more prone to interference. Analog is worth considering if you live in a suburban or rural area where you are not on top of your neighbors and have few electronic devices that share the same frequency as your monitor. The good news is that most video baby monitors, both analog and digital, come with multiple channels so you can switch to the channel with less interference.

If you live in a highly-populated urban environment, have close neighbors with monitors, as well as electronic devices that share the same frequency, then you should consider a digital monitor. Even though digital devices are more expensive, they are less likely to be open to interference.

However, if budget isn't a consideration and you really want a baby video monitor that can offer an interference free and secure signal, then I suggest you go for a video baby monitor with hop technology.

Baby Must Haves Checklist - From Breast Pumps To Baby Carriers

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

With so many different Baby products available, it's hard to know what is a must have and what is not. Obviously every Baby is different and what works for one Baby will not always work for another, however, educating yourself on what Baby items were most coveted by other Mothers will help you weigh your options. This is my list of must have baby items.

1) Baby Carrier - This is a must have baby item, in my opinion, you can never have too many baby carriers. Of course this comes from someone who instead of having a "shoe" fetish, has a Baby Carrier fetish. I personally have three Baby Carriers, and each one serves a different purpose. They're great for colic babies, like my daughter, who always want to be held. I was able to hold her, hands free, and get my house work done. I could not have lived without my Baby Carriers.

2) Breast Pump - When I look back, one of the most used baby items I owned was my Breast Pump. My daughter was three weeks early, and my milk supply had not fully developed, therefore I pumped every day after every feeding. If you find yourself in this situation, don't waste your money on cheap breast pumps, get yourself a high quality breast pump that cycles several times a minute. I had a Medela Swing Single Pump, and I loved it! Of course I went through probably 3 different pumps before I finally bit the bullet and bought the Medela. So, in my opinion, if you're having trouble with your milk supply, or your little one has trouble latching on properly, a Breast Pump is a must have baby item.

3) Baby Swing - Sometimes Mom and Dad just need a break, and a Baby Swing is the perfect stand in, therefore it makes my list of baby must have items. Whether your little one is colic, or not, Baby Swings are not only designed to sooth and comfort, but they can also provide plenty of entertainment. Ours had a little mobile attached that hung above our daughters head, she was obsessed with it, always starring at it, trying to grab it. I used to put her in the swing, with the baby monitor set up next to it of course, and then I'd hop in the shower. It was sometimes the only way I could get a shower!

4) Security Blanket - My daughter wouldn't take a pacifier, and she was never much of a thumb sucker, so when it came to finding something she could use to sooth herself, I went with the security blankets. Hers had satin material on the inside and a little bear head attached. When she got a little bit older and started taking naps in her crib, she would suck on the blanket until she finally drifted off to sleep. She became so attached to this blanket that she had a hard time sleeping without it. So, if this is something that interests you, my only recommendation is that once you find one that your Baby likes, buy a couple, that way when you have to wash one you'll have a stand in.

5)Crib Mobile - The Crib Mobile became a baby must have at about 3 months when I began trying to get my daughter to fall asleep on her own. It was tough, actually unbearable. She would cry non-stop for up to 45 minutes, and in the end I would usually cave and run in an rescue her. A friend suggested that I put a mobile in her crib, and when I finally did, I wished that I had done it months earlier. All it took was 20 minutes of Bach or Beethoven, and she would calmly and quietly drift off to sleep.

Summer Infant Best View Handheld Video Monitor Review

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

The new and improved Summer Infant Best View Handheld Monitor is an update of the previously popular analog model. Not only does it looks sleeker and smarter, but offers up-to-date digital technology providing a more secure and interference free transmission.

The Summer Infant Best view has some really great features that parents really appreciate. First and mostly importantly it has a 2.5" LCD color screen on which to view your baby in color during the day and then as it gets dark it automatically gives you black and white nighttime vision.

Having good night vision is important for most parents as they can keep an eye on their little one during the night. Quite a few customers mentioned that they felt the nighttime vision wasn't as clear and crisp as the previous model, saying that the image was grainy and fuzzy. However, other customers were very pleased with the quality.

Unfortunately digital transmissions can suffer from interference especially if close to other wireless devices that run on the same frequency such as cordless phones, WiFi computers, microwave ovens etc. Often, moving them away from these devices will improve the reception.

Given that the screen is only 2.5", some customers commented that if you are expecting HD quality on such a small screen then you will be disappointed.

As mentioned, many customers were very pleased with the night vision as they were with the pan, tilt and zoom camera capabilities that are remotely activated by the monitor. This allows you to get the best view of your baby at all times. Hence the name of this video baby monitor.

The Summer Infant Best view is designed to be handheld and fits nicely into your hand so you can carry it around. It's also the just the right size to fit into your pocket. There's also a built-in kick stand so you can place it on a level surface when you are perhaps working in the kitchen or watching TV and has a belt clip so you can attach it to your belt or waistband, allowing you to be hands-free if out in the garden.

Along with features such as automatic nighttime vision, LED sound lights, quick view, volume control and rechargeable batteries, the monitor can expand with your family, supporting up to four cameras. However, it doesn't have two-way talk back that features on many other video baby monitors, but you can clearly see and hear your baby which is the most important thing.

Most customers were more than satisfied with the quality of the picture and audio. There were, however, some complaints that the nighttime vision wasn't as clear as the previous analog model. Overall, though, the Summer Infant Best View Handheld Color Video Monitor was felt to be a great baby monitor and good value for money.

Check out my Summer Infant Best View Review for more information on features as well as pros and cons. See how it compares to other models before you buy with our detailed, in-depth video baby monitor reviews.

Are Video Baby Monitors Safe?

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

When it comes to the safety of our children and home, nothing is too much trouble. But have you thought about whether using a video baby monitors is safe? In this article, I will discuss whether these monitors can cause harm to your children and whether they can be misused by others.

You may be aware that during 2010/11 there were reports of two deaths of infants from strangulation by the electrical cords of Summer Infant video baby monitors. In both cases this was caused by the camera being placed too close to the baby's crib, one on top of the crib rail and the other on a changing table next to the crib. To avoid further tragic incidences, Summer Infant announced a voluntary recall so they could provide new product labeling and instructions. Now instructions clearly state that the camera should be placed at least three feet from the baby's crib.

You really don't have to place the camera right on top of your baby in order to see them clearly. Even with night vision you can see them from at least six feet away. Also many camera's have a zoom function so you can see them at close range.

The other aspect to video baby monitor safety is lack of security. ABC News (2010) brought to the attention of parents the fact that their babies could be seen through a baby video monitor whilst driving around the neighborhood. All the parents were absolutely shocked that other people could see their baby in their cribs and felt very concerned that they had no warning that this could happen.

The news report questioned whether this could invite burglars as well as other unwanted attention. Whilst some people thought this was really good to know, others felt that this was an irresponsible piece of news reporting, bringing this to the attention of people that could misuse baby video monitors. Whatever you feel about this, the question of your child's safety is or should be a huge concern for all parents thinking of buying one.

You may be asking how it's possible for other people to see your baby in it's crib? The first thing to know is how these monitors work. A baby monitor is essentially a radio transmitter on a fixed frequency of around 49MHz, 900MHz or 2.4GHz that sends a signal from the monitor to the receiver. A signal is received either through an analog or digital transmission. Analog has been around for a long time, but given the rise in wireless devices around it's become harder to transmit and much more open to interference. Digital wireless on the other hand is much more reliable and less open to interference.

The problem is that many wireless electronic devices such as cordless phones, microwave ovens, radios, remote controlled devices, security video cameras, smart meters for electric energy and, of course, baby monitors all run on similar frequencies. So if you have neighbors who also have baby monitors running on the same frequency, then you will be open to interference. Usually video baby monitors come with more than one channel, so if you get interference then you can switch to another channel without interference, but this doesn't guarantee security.

Unlike WiFi computers which you can password protect, most video baby monitors don't have any security features. This means that the signal can easily be picked up by the receiver of anyone's video monitor in your area. Obviously people can only see the signal whilst the transmitter is on. The problem is that many people with video monitors leave them on for 24 hours which could enable a burglar to determine whether someone is at home or not.

To ensure complete security then you should look for a model that offers frequency hopping and if possible, data encryption technology as it's highly resistant to interference. A model that offers both is the Motorola MBP36 digital video baby monitor. Unfortunately having this sort of technology comes at a higher price, but if you want peace of mind then it's worth considering.

So are video baby monitors safe? Video baby monitors are very safe as long as you read the instructions and place the camera at least three feet away from your baby's crib. Transmission signals are open to interception so you need to make sure that you choose the right one for your circumstances.

I have written other articles about buying video baby monitors. Take a look at the buying advice section on my video baby monitor reviews website. Also check out my in-depth reviews on some of the top selling video baby monitors.

What Baby Monitor Is Best: Audio Vs Video?

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

When choosing a baby monitor there are two different types that you will come across: the good old-fashioned audio monitor that parents have been using for many years, but has now been updated, and the much newer video monitors, designed so you can see as well as hear your baby.

What baby monitor you choose really all depends on you as a parent. Stop and think about whether you're the type of parent who is happy to just hear your baby or you would you have more peace of mind being able to both see and hear at the same time.

Audio Baby Monitors

For many years parents used the old wired analog audio baby monitors to hear their babies, but now with new technology, they have become wireless and offer even more useful features. Not only can you hear your baby, but can even talk to them through the two-way talk back feature available with specific models.

Audio baby monitors are prone to interference especially if you have other devices which run on the same frequency. However, on many models the monitor actually automatically scans the multitude of channels to ensure that you have interference free audio. Other features may include voice activation mode, sensitivity adjustment, nightlight, sound indicator lights and even lullabies.

The newest digital technology found in audio monitors, is Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT). DECT offers an interference free, encrypted transmission that's not affected by other DECT systems, WiFi networks, blue tooth and other wireless devices.

However, there is some controversy surrounding DECT baby monitors. A few years back, UK based Consumer group Powerwatch urged parents to get rid of their DECT monitors because they found that babies were experiencing disruptive sleep, restlessness and irritability. These symptoms stopped when the monitor was taken away. This didn't seem to happen with the old wired models or other analog or digital wireless monitors.

Video Baby Monitors

Times have certainly changed and now you can not only hear your baby, but can see what your little one is up to any time you want. For some parents this is a great feature as it gives them peace of mind, but others think it's a waste of time and money.

Video baby monitors come with a parent unit which is usually portable so you can carry it around with you from room to room. Some you can even attach to your belt or waistband to be hands-free, allowing you to do things like gardening or washing the car.

Video screens come in different sizes, from a small 1.8" screen to a huge 7" screen, although I think around 3.5" is perfectly adequate. You place the camera in your baby's room on level surface like chest of drawers or shelf, so it doesn't drop, at least three or more feet away from the crib for safety reason. Another option is to wall mount the camera with screws and bracket that is usually included. Remotely controlled, cameras can pan around the room, zoom in, tilt and even scan between rooms if you've got multiple cameras depending on the model.

Again, depending on the model, you can have additional features such as night lights, temperature sensors, voice activated alerts, sound light alert, lullabies and even be able to take snap shots. Perhaps the best feature of them all is the automatic night vision capability. As the light in your baby's room gets low, the built-in LED lights on the camera allows you to have clear black and white vision.

Like audio baby monitors, video monitors are also open to interference. Not only that, there have been reports that parents can see other neighbors babies through their monitors, especially if they have one that is on a similar frequency. If you're thinking of buying a video baby monitor then it would be useful to check out your neighbors to see if the have one and if so, on what frequency it transmits so you can avoid it. The good news is that frequency hopping and data encryption technology offers an interference free and secure signal. As you can imagine this technology comes at a price, but this may be worth considering for peace of mind.

What baby monitor is best: audio vs video?

On the positive side, audio baby monitors are generally cheaper and sufficient for your needs especially if you are in a small to medium sized house. Also some models offer the very useful two-way talk back feature so you can talk or soothe you baby without going into their room.

However, on the down side, there are concerns regarding the safety of the newer DECT monitors. Also, even though you can easily pick up your baby's sounds, and talk to them through the two-way talk back feature, you can't see what they're up to without going into the room and possibly disturbing them.

Video baby monitors tend to be more costly, but not only can you hear your baby, but see them too. They are great for people with any size home, but especially if you have a home with more than one floor then you don't have to be running up and down to check on your baby.

Screens come in a variety of sizes, the larger the screen, the more clearer you can see. Most monitors offer features such as automatic night vision and two-way talk back so you can both see and talk to your baby without having to go in the room.

There is the issue of your signal being intercepted by neighbors with monitors on the same frequency. If you really want security then you may want to consider a model with frequency hopping and encryption technology.

Both audio baby monitors and video baby monitors both have their positive and negative points. In the end it comes down to whether you are happy to be able to hear your baby only, or whether you will feel much more at ease if you can both hear and see them.

I have written other articles about baby monitors that will help you in choosing the right one for you. Take a look at the buying advice section on my video baby monitor reviews website. Also check out my in-depth reviews on some of the top selling video baby monitors.
