How to Choose the Best Baby Bedding for Your Nursery

Once you get that exciting news that you are expecting, one of the first things a new parent thinks about is, "how will we decorate baby's nursery?" The next several months will be filled with loads of things to do and prepare for and one of the them will be getting the nursery ready.

While many parents still opt for the baby's gender to remain under wraps until he or she is born, keeping it a surprise, it is becoming increasing popular to find out what they are having, making it easier to prepare the nursery theme, colors, and clothing.

With baby bedding, the sky is the limit. There is no shortage of color options and themes, from ultra luxurious and expensive, to more conservative and cost conscious. There also seems to be a trend of keeping the nursery neutral, even if the gender is known. Neutral colors, such as grays and camel/taupe, are very popular and can create a very tranquil and calming nursery. Baby bedding patterns are no longer just jungle animals and cartoon characters. They come in beautiful patterns that look almost like they belong in Mom and Dad's master suite. These soothing more "grown up" patterns are becoming more and more popular with parents.

Of course, pink for girls and blue for boys is still a popular choice. Celery green is a great choice for either a boy or girl and can look beautiful with many different accessories.

Baby bedding pricing can run a new parent anywhere from around $100 on the low-end to upwards of well over $1000 for a complete set with all the bells and whistles. A new parent must also think about outfitting a cradle too if one is going to be used in addition to the crib. Matching crib and cradle sets are available if this is the look a new parent is going for.

Crib bedding can be purchased as a set or each piece seperately. Parents can often outfit the rest of the nursery with matching curtains or valances, framed memoboards, diaper stackers, hampers, changing pad covers, wall art, barrette holders, throw pillows, and decorative letters for the nursery wall. Many crib bedding sets can even be monogrammed.

One can quickly see how these choices can become overwhelming. Wanting to make sure the right choice is made without meeting their new little person first can be a daunting task. Luckily, there are many brick and mortar stores, as well as online boutiques, that can make these choices a little bit easier. The internet can be a great place to research baby bedding before setting out to make that important purchase. Many of these online stores even offer special sales to help new parents snag the bedding of their dreams without breaking the bank.

Nursery Rhymes - Where Have All The Traditional Ones Gone?

If you're reading this article you too, probably, have a toddler or two running around creating havoc. If, like me, you're wondering where all the traditional nursery rhymes have gone to, I'm here to remedy the situation!

Do you remember the traditional children's songs from your kindergarten years such as Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Baa Baa Black Sheep, Old MacDonald Had A Farm, Incy Wincy/Itsy Witsy Spider, ABC, etc? I assume that you remember them sung in a certain way, with different emphasis and stresses on certain keywords. You cannot forget the melodies either - impossible! In fact a lot of melodies are reused on multiple nursery rhymes such as Twinkle Twinkle has the same melody as the A, B, C Song and Baa Baa Black Sheep.

So you can imagine my horror when recently, when I was trying to entertain my youngest daughter (15 months old) with some videos on YouTube and almost none of these aforementioned kids' songs were as I recalled! Was my poor memory to blame here?

I wanted to show my baby all the nursery rhymes that I had grown up with, as did my own mother/father and theirs too. I was stunned (or should that read "shocked"?) to see how disastrously bad the vast majority of the online videos were. I mean they were really awful! At best, some were genuinely laugh out loud, but for all the wrong reasons(!) and at worst some were downright scary and perhaps not even suitable for young children. Perhaps the ratio of good:poor quality was around 1:40! Also I noticed that most of the YouTube nursery rhyme videos had incredibly long intros - 20, 30 or even more seconds of pre-ambling material, promotions and other irrelevant material before actually commencing the main theme. I probably don't need to tell you dear parent, that even just 20 seconds can seems like an incredibly long time when you have a wriggling and slightly bored baby on your lap!

Not only are the websites and animations mainly of an incredibly poor quality the actual songs and lyrics themselves were very often incorrect, as the singer/company's first language was often not actually English. Where had all the real nursery rhymes gone I wondered? There was very little online resources that mirrored my childhood memories. "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" had now become "Dwingle Dwingle" and the little boy from Baa Baa Black Sheep now lived in the lane (whatever that means!)

It's important that we don't lose our traditional songs to the unrelenting technological changes that allow anyone to upload any material they like to the internet. It's important that high standards are adhered to and that we pass our playground songs on accurately. I urge you to check out some of the nursery rhyme videos for yourself to see how awful they have become. You will laugh at some and cringe at others but after the initial laughter has died down you too will feel the sadness of your childhood memories becoming lost.

The number of views a video has received or where it appears in the search results unfortunately doesn't give any indication of quality. So, how to locate the good stuff and ignore the bad? My recommendations are as follows:
Go to YouTube (not Google) to searchUse the nursery rhyme's full name - i.e. "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" is better than "Twinkle Twinkle" and use speech marks around title.Adding the word "British" or "English" can really helpClick search options and under "Features" (far right) click High definition.

Inspired by the lack of quality nursery rhyme videos available and without any previous experience, I assembled a team of people: myself, husband and 2 daughters(!), to come up with a solution.

It was great fun (also expensive!) and at times it was very stressful project managing a remote team of animators, but we are hugely proud of the final result. Our hope and dream is to create more of these traditional nursery rhyme animations and upload them all to YouTube so that they become a free resource for one and all.

Make Your Baby Happy- Buy a Nursery Glider

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Newborn babies also want to feel safe and secure. They want to feel loved and wanted. They can't speak though, they can't complain, but they have that instinct feeling, to know that their Mom actually loves them all the time. They can judge by the way Mommies hold them, the way Mom whispers tender and loving words, and of course... don't forget Mom's lullabies!

Babies want to be cradled, to feel the warmth from the mother's breast. Usually, the slow rocking movements of the body while being held close makes babies become relaxed and happy. If they are happy, they tend to sleep well and comfortably. But, what if Mom is really tired for the day? How could she make her baby feel happy and comfortable all the time? The answer is... the nursery glider.

A nursery glider is a good enhancer to mother's gentle touch. It is one way of entertaining babies, whose only wish is to be cared, pampered and hug. A mother will also enjoy a glider, especially if she breastfeeds her baby. Let us make Mom become happy too... while feeding her baby. Definitely, a baby glider will do the purpose. The glider is necessary in every nursery room. This is a big help to mother's who want some peace of mind while breastfeeding the baby. The slow gliding motion is soothing to both mother and child without having to make so much body movements.

The modern day nursery glider differs from traditional rocking chair. It is more comfortable to the feeling while feeding babies. Just make sure the glider is not too narrow to give room for both the mother and the child. The gliding motion gives a soothing feeling which is good when Mom wishes to have a short nap as well, or while nursing her baby or when Mom wants a peaceful time with the baby. Most gliders are made of wood with a reclining back and a swivel base that comes with a footstool or an ottoman. It is fully cushioned for a more comfortable feeling.

A nursery glider moves differently from a traditional rocking chair. The rocking chair usually moves up and down and causes so much squeaking sounds while the glider offers a smooth gliding motion. It glides forward and back smoothly without giving any unnecessary sound. This gives babies a more comfortable feeling making them sleeps soundly for a long period time.

For a more comfortable feeling, choose a nursery glider which is fully upholstered. Choose one which offers good lumbar support with a hardwood frame. The nursery glider provides a more relaxed atmosphere to both the mother and the newborn baby. So, for Mom's baby furniture, choose only the best that answers the baby's needs.

A Baby Quilt for the Nursery

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Mommy and baby have that special bond and there is no better way to mark the joy than with a unique handmade baby quilt. Even in the nine month period before the baby is born, Mommy is out looking for special outfits, just the right furniture, and all the accessories that the little one will need to come home to. A baby quilt makes the room complete. Since a baby spend more than half of their little life sleeping, cuddling in a warm, snuggly handmade quilt will be just perfect.

As the baby grows, a baby quilt is not just for the nursery, but can be used for playtime on the floor, used in the playpen, or become that loveable "blankie" that gets dragged around the house during playtime. Just think of how beautiful the nursery will look with handmade crib quilt to accent the decor.

A crib quilt can be designed in all types of colors, designs, and fabrics to compliment any nursery. Not only does a baby quilt spruce up the nursery and keep the bay cuddly warm but they are completely machine wash and dry. Baby cotton flannels, fleece, and natural cottons are excellent choices for a baby quilt and will last through many a machine washing and play session.

The size of the baby quilt may vary from a newborn's cradle, to a bassinet size, and on to a small bed. Each can sport a quilt with trains, soccer balls, or just the shades of blue and matching colors to make any quilt perfect for the special little boy. Change the color pattern to pink, add a few princess, a doll, or even some flowers, and any little lady will have a new quilt all her own. Animals, the alphabet, color patterns also become great quilt ideas for either girls or boys. Vary the pinks and blues to greens and yellow, or even a touch of lavender and the baby quilt takes on a whole new look for the nursery or the newborn's bedroom.

On the side of caution, be sure that the quilt does not have decorations such as buttons, tassels, or bows that could easily detach and could be swallowed by the baby. These look so adorable on the quilt but are dangerous and should not be used. Even the stitching on a handmade quilt should be small in size, so that the baby can't get their fingers or toes caught in them. Loose threads could easily lead problems.
When looking for a gift for that new Mommy-to-Be, a baby quilt can be a great addition to any nursery.

Come and choose one our handmade children's quilts, a lasting keepsake, a unique birthday gift, or Christening gift, for that special "little one." The Nursery Glider an Essential Piece Of Furniture in the Nursery

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Even as you would not immediately appreciate its importance, a nursery glider is definitely a very practical piece of furniture that you should have in the playroom. A nursery glider moves in a gentle and soothing motion which makes it better than a conventional rocking chair. It was intended to make your baby comfortable enough to go to sleep.

Most gliders have high backs which facilitates the feeding of your infant by supporting your neck and head. It also makes nursing your baby easy with its good arm support. Most manufacturers offer Nursery Gliders in at least fifteen assorted styles of glider chairs for adults. Some of the style selections include smaller Gliders for small spaces. Glider recliners for maximum comfort and the Chair and Half, which is a larger model and is an ideal selection if you have twins. Since you may have to use a matching nursing pillow when you use your glider when you feed your infant, it is essential to select a chair that is spacious. In order for you to decide on the most appropriate size look for a store that has some model chairs that you can test.

There are other factors to take into account when you are looking for a nursery glider. Some glider models have an option for a down-filled padding. The ottoman may be fixed, movable or a cushion may be included in the set. You can opt to choose the reclining glider that has a footstool from since it is not only eye-catching aside from allowing you to cozily prop your feet even without having to tilt the chair backward.

After choosing the style of the glider that you want, you have other factors to take note of. Make sure to purchase from a well-known brand for nursery gliders to ensure they have been manufactured according to all safety requirements. Many manufacturers offer more than one hundred twenty upholstery style options. These fabrics include polka dots, chenille, and the micro suede which can be easily cleaned. In many occasions you can also supply your own material to make nursery glider more personalized. You also have an option for a custom-made skirt, ruffled skirt or a box fold. The ottoman skirt can complement the skirt of any glider. You can combine the chair and skirt material or you can choose to design your own piping. The cover for the arm rest, throw pillow, nursing pillow and lumbar cushion can also complement any glider model.

You do not need to keep the glider in the nursery. You can customize its cover to match any room inside the house so that you can move it around. You can use it in the living room after you are done nursing your baby. Sooner or later you will discover that the nursery glider are exceptionally relaxing pieces of furniture and make the best seat in the house.

Three Adorable Nursery Themes for Boys

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Boys can be a handful and every mom knows that. In order to calm down your son at night, it's important to have a nursery theme that can lull him to sleep. Better yet, why not get a theme that other parents will admire? Boys' themes can be a little bit more difficult than girls' nursery themes, so it might be a good idea to get some inspiration from these new and easy to implement themes for boys.

Boys are naturally adventurous, so why try to hide it? Give your baby a nursery theme that screams of adventure on the high seas! Painting your son's room with nautical colors, adding an ocean baby quilt theme, and making his furniture more 'piratey' is a great way to make your son's room into his own ship. Nautical themes are understated, so most of the theme will probably have to be displayed with furniture and accessories, instead of through wall painting. The best part about having a nautical, or pirate, theme is that it can be low maintenance enough for your son to grow with. You probably won't have to re-paint the room until he's out of college.
Another excellent theme for boys is sports. Your future quarterback, baseball star, or soccer player will love to frolic in his own sporty world. Decorating your child's crib with sports-themed bedding sets, along with having football (or any other kind of ball) shaped nightlights will definitely make his room stand out. When it comes to this theme, wall decor can take many different shapes. Murals are often a great way to add an extra sporty cheer to an already fun nursery. Why not add wall decals from your favorite teams? Some parents who are very enthusiastic about sports will even pin their favorite player's jerseys to the walls. The best part about having a sports-themed nursery is that boys NEVER actually tire from sports. This is a beautiful room theme that grows with your son!
The third and last nursery theme for boys we will discuss is a jungle and dinosaur theme. Having his own giant reptile friends adorning his walls and roaming his baby quilt sets and even starring in his favorite shows will make this one of the easiest themes to put into place. Murals, though definitely recommended, aren't even necessary in this theme. What is necessary, however, is imagination. Toy chests that resemble dino eggs might be a great idea to look into. Of course, prop palm trees and a dino mobile might be a good idea, too.

If you run out of ideas on what to add for this or any of the other themes, don't worry. Chances are that your friends will still envy your stunning yet adorable nursery and more importantly your son will have a unique space to call his own!

3 Adorable Nursery Themes

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Have you been wondering what theme your nursery should have? A good theme is a great start to any nursery decorating plan. Finding the right theme for your nursery will be a little tricky, so it's best to start looking for inspiration from different sources and with plenty of time to spare. There are so many different nursery themes to choose from, it can be hard to know where to start. There are color themes, which are common, but the more unusual themes are where you will find the best choices. Still clueless and looking for an inspiration? Here are some popular, unique and cute baby room themes which are also budget friendly and easy to develop.

1. Mother Goose and Company - Find a bunch of your favorite nursery rhymes and use them to create a world of storybook adventures for your little one. Your inspiration can come from 3 Blind Mice, Hey Diddle Diddle, or even old Mother Goose herself. This is an awesome choice if you want to create a one-of-a-kind mural, or if you want to get a very traditional theme that will leave your child smiling. Also, it's a great way to encourage your baby to get an interest in literature or books.

2. The Teddy Bear Picnic - Ever since Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt was in office, the teddy bear has become a mainstay among childhood toys. For decades there have been nurseries and children's rooms that had these fuzzy little companions as both decoration and cherished friends. Teddy bears are sweet, cuddly, and adorable. Shopping for a teddy bear themed room will be extremely easy, considering how popular these childhood icons are. The theme is well developed in baby bedding, carpets, wall decor, etc. Moreover, the bears are a toy that every child enjoys tremendously and has at least one of, regardless of the nursery theme!

3. Race Track Rides - If you want a bit more action in the nursery and secretly dream of the day when your son or daughter will win a NASCAR race, maybe it's time to get an automotive-themed nursery. Cars, trucks, racer flags, and even stop lights can add a high speed thrill to any nursery. Possibly the easiest theme to choose your favorite colors for, having a race car theme also provides another benefit that many other nursery themes cannot provide. Unlike teddy bears and Mother Goose, a race car theme will still be popular with boys well into their grade school years. And, if your son or daughter actually does become a NASCAR fan, a lot of the things that you used to decorate the nursery might just stick around for decades.

Choosing a theme for your nursery is just the starting point; it will help you to stay 'on track' when choosing colors, shopping for crib bedding, finding accessories, etc. It will guide you through the nursery design project and will make the process less stressful and more enjoyable.

Preparing a Safe Nursery for Your Newborn Baby

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Preparing your baby's nursery can be one of the most exciting and fun events of pregnancy, deciding the color scheme, furniture and nursery decor theme...

It does however pay to be aware of safety considerations before spending lots of money at the shops.

Here are a few things to consider for both old and new items:
Check sizes of all gaps and openings an all furniture, tiny fingers, arms, legs and heads can get caught in gaps.Make sure all furniture and equipment meets the American safety standards and recommendations found at Consumer Product Safety Commission websiteThe furniture should be sturdy enough for your baby's weight and should not have any rough surfaces or sharp edges

Some furniture ideas for the nursery may include diaper change table, baby bath, baby bouncinette or rocker, chest of draws and a comfortable chair for you to sit in when feeding your baby.

Choosing a Crib:
Ensure that the mattress fits snug in the crib with no gabs. There shouldn't be any more than 2 fingers between the crib and the mattress. If there is a large gap your baby could trap an arm or a leg.Check that the gap between all vertical bars is no more than 2 3/8 inches apart and that they do not bend. Any larger and your child could get their head trapped.Regularly check the crib for wear and tear such as peeling paint as this can become a chocking hazardMake sure that the sides are high enough. To low and this could allow your child to climb out or even fall from the crib. Make sure that the side rail that slides up and down locks automatically and that the child cannot undo it.

The following are a few tips to ensure a safe environment:
Do not position your baby s crib near a window, heater or power points. This will reduce the risk of injuries such as strangulation from curtains or cords falls, burns and electric shockDo not use electric blankets or hot water bottlesDo not use u shaped pillows for children under the age of 2. It is not recommended that babies use pillows at all

Enjoy this magical moment but remember not to neglect all safety aspects when designing your newborn baby's nursery.

Remember a safe baby is a happy baby!

Tips for Planning Baby's Nursery

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

The time has come to start planning for your baby's nursery. This can be an exciting time for expectant parents. The first thing to do is decide what room will be the nursery. You may want your baby in a room close by to yours. This is more convenient for those parents who like to check on the baby often. Think about some items of furniture you would like to include in your nursery. You will have to have a crib of course. Depending on the size of the room and what you can afford, you probably would want to add a changing table and a dresser. If the room is big enough, a rocking chair is nice to have.

The next thing to think about is the color of your nursery and the theme. If you are using a theme, decide what bedding set you want to use to match your theme. Then you can decide on the color to paint your room that will compliment your bedding and theme. If you prefer not to use a theme, or don't know the sex of your baby yet, yellow and green are great neutral colors. You can even use combinations of colors. The color you choose to paint your baby's room can affect their mood and development.

Some colors have positive moods and some have negative moods. These are some examples of colors and their effects. White is a color that creates peace and serenity. Cream colors add warmth. You can always bring in color with your bedding and accessories. Blue usually exudes positive energy. Lighter blues are more peaceful. Believe it or not, the most relaxing of all colors is a soft green. Pink and violet are great girl colors but are better used as accents than painted on the wall. Bold pinks and violets can be distracting rather than soothing. Yellow can be over-stimulating and distracting. If you choose the pink, violet, or yellow, try to use the lightest shades you can.

Now that you have completed decorating the baby's nursery it is time to think about some of the basic baby items you will need. A few of these baby items you will need are crib sheets, crib blankets, mattress pad, receiving blankets, and infant wear. Babies go through at least 7 to 10 diapers a day. You can start to buy diapers but try not to buy too many newborn sizes because babies can grow out of these sizes quickly.
