Introducing Baby to Solid Foods

When introducing baby to solid foods it is important to remember that his main nutrition will still be from the formula or breast milk he gets. Giving baby solids at 4 to 6 months teaches him how to eat from a spoon and that food has different tastes and textures. If your baby is between 4 and 6 months of age you can start him on baby cereals. Jarred fruits and vegetables are generally introduced at 6 months due to baby's sensitive digestion. Not all babies mature at the same time. Consult your pediatrician if your baby's appetite seems to suggest he may be ready for solids earlier than 4 months. Always get your doctor's permission before starting your baby on new foods and watch for any food sensitivities.

Signs a Baby May Be Ready for Solids

If your baby is drinking more than 6 oz. of formula or breast milk at a sitting, he may want something more substantial to fill him up. Some babies are ready for solids sooner than others. Does your baby seem interested in the food you are eating? Does he or she seem to get hungry at or just before mealtimes? If your baby shows these signs ask your doctor about starting him on cereal.

Babies have a supply of iron that begins to deplete around 6 months of age, be careful feeding your baby iron-fortified cereals before that. The best time to begin feeding baby is around the family mealtimes. Babies tend to get overly fussy when they are hungry so it is a good idea to feed them before they get too hungry. Gradually begin feeding them at the table when the family eats. This is a good way to establish good eating habits for your child.

No Milk

As your baby begins eating regular food it may be tempting to give them regular cow's milk but don't. Babies cannot properly digest cow's milk until the age of one year. After 12 months, a baby's digestive system is more capable of breaking down the protein and lactose in cow's milk. Another reason to wait until a year old is that babies given milk too soon may develop a milk allergy. Babies under one year old should never be given honey or cow's milk, although yogurt and cottage cheese are allowed because of the processing they go through.

What to Feed a Baby?

Babies' age 4 to 6 months may be given baby cereal, 1/4 cup of pureed fruits or vegetables and breast milk or formula to equal 25 to 30 ounces per day. The baby's milk provides most of his nutrition in the beginning as he learns to taste, bite and chew new types of food. Not all women are able to breast feed and that's OK. Just make sure your baby gets the best possible nutrition from the food he eats. This is the time for teaching good eating habits so avoid the temptation to introduce junk foods or fast food items. There is plenty of time for your baby to have his first french fry or chicken nugget.

Feeding Baby: How Much Is Enough?

Feeding an infant might seem like a daunting task, especially if you're a first-time parent, but there's really no mystery to it. In fact, it can be a wonderful, fulfilling experience for both parent and baby when approached the right way.

Recent research shows that infants are born with an instinct, referred to as their appestat, which sends a "stop eating" signal to the part of the brain that controls appetite. Trusting this inborn sense about how much food will satisfy baby's appetite lays the foundation for good eating habits for the rest of his life.

To heed your baby's appestat, pay close attention to when he signals he's full. Here are clues to look for:

1. A newborn spits out nipple or falls asleep

2. At six to twelve months look for these following signals:

Your baby turns his/her head away to regulate pace or end feeding
Your baby refuses to open his/her mouth
Your baby spits out his/her food or stores food in his/her mouth

3. At one to two years old:

Your baby shakes his/her head no
Your baby puts his/her hand over his/her mouth and pushes away the hand that offers food
Your baby uses simple words like "No," "Don't," or "Away"
Finally, your baby pushes away or throws plate, cup, or spoon

4. At two to three years old:

Your baby combines words, "All done" or "Get down"
Your baby pushes away plate
Your baby tries to remove his/her bib

Infants and toddlers who are allowed to follow their hunger and satiety cues, eating only as much as their bodies need for good health, will develop habits of moderation that should last a lifetime; however, as important as it is to let the child judge how much food he wants, it can be one of the most difficult things for a parent to do.

If a child's natural appestat breaks down because he is frequently encouraged to eat when he is full, feeding problems can develop and determining when and how much to eat may become a battle between parent and child. Remember that many parents tend to give infants and toddlers larger portions than necessary-and then expect them to finish all the food on their plates. Always start with small portions, then let your little one show you - in his very own way - if he wants more.

Toddler Halloween Outfits: 3 Ways To Avoid Tears On 31st October

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

You might think that buying toddler Halloween outfits is just about color and design. However it is not the same as buying for an older child. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth.

If you go and blindly choose an outfit with no extra thought, you could have a disaster on your hands come October 31st.

Why do toddlers need special treatment for their Halloween costumes? Because in a nutshell, they are toddlers. So much is illogical about this age group, and they can upset the (bobbing) applecart so easily.

You can prevent a lot of problems if you think ahead about the potential hazards. Here are three of the main ones, with a few solutions.

Problem Number One: Logic Has Left the Building

You are just asking for problems if you expect your child to act in a logical way at this age. So if they choose an outfit two weeks before the 31st and love it, don't necessarily expect them to happily wear it on the big day.

The solution to this is to encourage your child to whether costume as much as possible before Halloween. Put it in their dressing up box. Wear yours as well. The point is to make the experience as normal as possible for them.

Problem Number Two: Halloween Itself

This season is such a national institution that we often forget that he can be pretty nerve wracking for young children. So one day, their world - formally full of fluffy toys and Barney - is now a place where ghosts, ghouls, skeletons and goblins running around shouting "Trick or Treat!"

Of course a lot depends on your child's personality. Some children are simply not fazed by Halloween, others are too young to really understand it. You can easily tone down the whole experience for your toddler by steering him towards more "gentle" costumes such as lion, pumpkin, tiger, cat, bee etc.

Problem Number Three: Can't Dress Up, Won't Dress Up

Some toddlers simply do not want to dress up for Halloween.

So do not force them to.

There is a middle ground... And it's called accessorising.

Sparkly wings worn with normal clothes, or a neckerchief and the swag bag create instant transformations into a bat and a pirate. Wearing any normal dark-colored clothes and adding face paints can transform your child into whatever you like!

So there you have three major problems that could upset your Halloween celebrations. It's important not to take your toddler's attitude personally. Remember that they are properly not used to big crowds, loud noises and the change in routine.

Buying A Video Baby Monitor As A Gift

If you're thinking about buying a video baby monitor as a gift you may already be feeling little confused and just a little stressed. There are so many baby monitors available these days with so many different features and range in price that it becomes difficult to choose. So before you start pulling your hair out here are a few things you need to consider in order to buy that perfect gift.

Type of Transmission

This is one of the most important thing to think about. Video baby monitors these days have either an analog or digital transmission that run on different frequencies. Analog monitors are cheaper to buy but are more open to interference. Digital monitors offer a more secure and interference free reception, but tend to be pricier. However, digital frequencies can be open to interference so many of the newer models now utilize digital frequency hop and data encryption technology. This not only makes it virtually interference free, but offers optimal security so you don't have to worry about your transmission being intercepted by neighbors.

Signal Range

Some monitors offer a signal range of 350 feet up to 650 feet with a clear line of vision, although in reality the range tends to be shorter because of concrete walls, furniture etc in the way. If the monitor is for someone who lives in a large house with a big back or front yard, then you will want to go for a model with a longer signal range as opposed to someone who lives in small apartment.

Portability

There are baby video monitors that can't easily be moved around. However, most parents tend to be on their feet most of the day and would probably appreciate a model that is portable. This means that the parent unit can be easily handheld, has a kick out stand so they can place it on a table top or even has a belt clip so they can attach it to a belt, waistband or pocket.

Features

What sort of features are parents looking for in their video baby monitors. Obviously they want to be able to see their baby clearly both day and night. Most monitors come with a LCD color screen, and automatic black and white night vision. The screen sizes vary, however. They range from a small screen, around 1.5〃 up to a large 7〃 which is great if not a bit excessive. Parents seem satisfied with a 3.5〃 screen and this is perfectly adequate, although I would say anything between 2.4〃 and 3.5〃 is good. There are video monitors that have a basic black and white day and night screen which some parents find perfectly adequate and is cheaper too. However, I do think that having a color screen is much nicer for day time viewing.

Depending on the model, other features that you'll find include talk-to-baby intercom, voice activation alert, temperature sensor, lullabies, camera pan, scan and zoom and nightlight. The more features a model has the pricier it can become.Apart from night vision, I think the most important features are: talk-to-baby intercom which means you can soothe your baby without having to go into the room; audio only mode so you can turn the video off (conserves energy) and you are alerted when your baby starts to whimper or cry. This is a great for parents at night as they can then see whether they need to get up; and expandability. It's always useful to choose a model that has the option of adding additional cameras. This allows the parent to have a camera in different rooms, great for an expanding family.

Buying a video baby monitor as a gift is not so simple as you can see as there are so many factors to take into account. So which one do you choose? In the end it really all depends on your budget, but it's worth buying the best one you can afford that will offer an interference free and secure reception and clear video and audio.

Jogging Baby Strollers Make Great Everyday Strollers

Finding the perfect everyday baby strollers is a dilemma that is faced by new parents everywhere. There are a number of factors that must be taken into consideration. Buying a substandard stroller because of a reduced price often leads to later regret, leaving parents to struggle instead of being free to enjoy the time spent with their children. A great option that many parents do not think about is using a jogging stroller for every day use. Jogging strollers have the durability that is necessary for busy parents and active children.

There is a seemingly endless number of units available on the market. While it is time consuming, researching features and reviews is an important part of the buying process. There are websites available that will showcase features of different strollers side by side. This makes it easy to compare potential purchases.

After making the proper comparisons, many people find that jogging strollers offer the best value when it comes to refraining from compromise on features. They are built to be rugged and durable for outdoor use. While this durability may not be necessary for some families usage, it is always better to have a higher quality item. These units last a long time. They also make storage easy because families that use joggers for everyday use no longer are required to store two or more strollers.

Most jogging strollers have the same features of standard strollers, if not more. Storage is an important feature. Proper storage can allow any diaper bad or other necessities to be pushed along, leaving parents with free hands. Because of the design of jogging strollers it is easy to have a large amount of storage. Jogging strollers also have durable wheels. Wheels are often the first thing to break on a stroller. Because of this, having durable wheels is essential to using the same stroller for a long period of time.

Even though stroller shopping can be time consuming, the search is well worth it. Looking at the different options strollers have, going with a jogging stroller is an easy decision. They have superior features that makes using the everyday a breeze. Jogging strollers are made to be a lasting investment to bring ease to families in all walks of life. Doing the right research can help parents to be certain that their investment in a baby stroller will prove to be a good one.

Baby Clothing Gifts

Baby clothing gifts are the perfect gift for parents and for the babies themselves and this is something that the parents are going to be needing and buying in abundance. The reason for this is of course simply that their children are going to be constantly growing and that means that they are going to be constantly growing out of the clothes that fit them and needing replacements.

New parents of course are not rolling in cash - if nothing else having a baby is a highly expensive experience and they are going to be needing all the help they can get financially more so than ever before. By giving them baby clothes then you are greatly helping them and making life easier. Another reason that baby clothes are a great gift is simply that babies tend to ruin whatever they're currently wearing even more rapidly than adults can. For instance when they end up urinating or soiling their pants, or when they throw all their food down their tops. When this stains permanently there is little that most parents can do to salvage the situation and that means that they can end up looking like the most neglectful parents who let their children walk around in dirty clothes. Again they're going to love you for buying them something as thoughtful as baby clothes gifts.

At the same time though they will take a lot of joy in the opportunity to dress up their children and to give them nice clothes. This is one of the great appeals of having children - turning them into little people and imagining what they will be like when they're grown up. What better way to do so than to dress them up? Meanwhile parents love it when their little sprogs start to develop personalities that shine through and this can also be achieved with clothing as the clothes suddenly give the children that much more personality.

You do need to choose carefully though when you are buying baby clothes and this is something that you can get wrong if you're not careful. The first thing you need to consider is size. Make sure that you buy some clothing that is going to be large enough for the bay and make sure that you think ahead - if you are unsure of the size then buy big because of course the baby is always growing and that means that they will grow into the clothes that you give them.

Another thing to consider is quality. It's very important to buy good quality baby clothes, first because they are going to be put through the ringer with the child making such mess, but also because they have to be soft and comfortable. If you buy them bad quality clothes then the baby will be itchy or chaffing, or they will be too cold or hot. This then results in a screaming baby and suddenly you have two parents who aren't quite so grateful or necessarily singing your praises.

There is such a variety of things you can give as baby gifts. All of them are usually cute. I am of the age that lots of my friends are having kids and I usually just go for some cool baby clothing.

Don't Settle for Just Any Baby Basket, Insist on a Moses Basket

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

There is nothing more comforting than knowing that your little one is comfortable and snug in their bed. However, when traveling or visiting, it can be hard to find a suitable place for baby to rest. Fortunately, Moses baskets offer a great alternative to a full-size crib and can be used just about anywhere.

A Moses basket is a simple two-handled basket that makes an ideal bed for a young baby. They are fitted with padded sides and fitted covers to make this wonderful bed as attractive and convenient as possible. While you may find other baskets on the market, you will want to ensure that the one you purchase for your baby is an authentic Moses basket.

Moses baskets are built of quality materials and have your baby's comfort and safety in mind. Choosing products that may fray or pose a potential safety hazard is certainly not worth trying to save a few dollars. When you choose the basket preferred by most new parents, you will have a beautiful ensemble that will look fantastic while giving baby a comfortable and cozy bed no matter where you are.

While these baskets are intended for small babies, it is important to realize that some precautions need to be taken. First of all, handles need to be lowered so that they are never an entrapment or strangulation hazard for your baby. Also, the handles are not intended to be used when carrying baby from one place to another. These handles are simply to make carrying the empty basket as easy as possible. This means, you can slip the handles over one arm while grabbing all the other things you need to take with you.

Another important safety point you will want to keep in mind is that a Moses basket or any other type of baby basket is not intended for older babies. Once a baby is big enough to roll over on their own, it is time to get a more sturdy and secure bed for them to sleep in. When looking at baby baskets, remember the Moses basket is a great option that has many great colors and prints for cover choices. They also have adorable matching doll baskets to complete the look of baby's nursery.

There are less expensive choices on the market, but when you purchase other baby baskets you will not get the choices or the quality that the Baby Moses basket has to offer. Get a great looking baby basket with the convenience of fitted pads and covers for baby's ultimate comfort and safety.
