Baby Carriers - Become an Expert at Buying the Right Premium Brand Baby Carrier

There are so many baby carrier brands out there making all kinds of claims. We often accept the features they have without asking the fundamental question; what is important to me? I advise my clients to take a step back, assess their situation and do some research. Choosing the right baby carrier is one of the most important purchasing decisions we can make for our children. This article will help you to confidently identify premium quality carriers and ask retailers the right questions.

Quality

The quality of a carrier can range from the care put into making the carrier to the means of producing it. Here are the main quality considerations:

You may be carrying your child for a significant part of their early childhood so ensure you are satisfied that the fabric is hardwearing.

The carrier may be in contact with you and your child's skin for long periods, so natural breathable materials are a high priority.!00% cotton, canvas and linen are often used in premium carriers where the material is in contact with the skin.

Look for Non-metallic vegetable dyes as these are kinder to the skin.

The OeKo-Tex standards include a test for material worn next to the skin. If the carrier achieved a good or very good in the children's skin category, the result will always be prominently displayed. If it is not, ask your retailer about it.

Is the baby carrier built to last? Premium baby carriers are not cheap and you may be using it for some time.

Are the buckles and clasps sturdy? The best carriers use military grade plastics in this safety critical part of their construction.

Are the seams double stitched with extra anchor stitching at the load bearing points?

Check for your local safety standard marks

If ethical buying is important to you, check out the manufacturer's website, most responsible makers will have environmental and human rights impact statements along with information on the means of production.

Design

The design of the carrier will tell you a lot about the care put into making it. Importantly, it may reveal if the brand has kept up with innovations, or is using an old design. Some baby carriers are more suited to certain body shapes and of course you may want it to fit a number of wearers and children. Here are some ideas on what to look for in the information, adverts and pictures and what to ask your retailer:

Make sure the carrier is suitable for the age of your child; the age range should be displayed prominently in the advert or literature.

Check that the child is seated in the correct position; research has shown that children seated in an 'M' position, with their bottom and legs supported knee-pit to knee-pit, are getting the optimum support for their developing pelvis, hip and back joints.

With most carriers there is a learning curve in terms of their usage. However, putting the carrier on should feel intuitive.

How many positions can you use with carrier? Having the versatility of three positions, such as: front (facing in), back, and hip carry can be a god-send as the child grows and your needs change.

Studies have found that new-born babies being carried in the facing out position can develop anxiety. I advise parents to avoid carriers that only offer the facing out position.

Be wary of buckles and straps that are hard to reach and buckles that are too stiff and fiddly.

Premium carriers have extra wide padded shoulder straps and a wide stiff padded waist belt for comfort and support,

Most premium brands will offer an organic option.

The very best carriers have plenty of adjustability to suit you, your baby, and your carrying partner's needs. Make sure that each supporting strap or belt can be fully adjusted

Premium brand carriers often differentiate themselves with additional features such as hoods, foot straps, storage bags and neck rests. Ask your retailer what else it comes with.

After-sales support

Baby carriers can be difficult to get used to at first. Many manufacturers and retailers of premium brands offer practical advice.

Does the carrier come with a fully illustrated booklet or DVD with carrying instructions?

Are there on-line videos showing how to use the carrier?

Is there a help line or email address you can use to gain additional information, advice and guidance?

Try Before You Buy

Even with a comprehensive checklist like the one above, there is no substitute for trying before you buy. The problem is retailers often only stock a narrow selection of carrier and, anyway, you can only try them on in the shop. There is little opportunity to find out in the real world whether you and your little one will take to it.

Some retailers offer baby carrier hire services for anything from 2 weeks to several months hire. Some will even use the cost of the hire to offset the price of a new carrier. This can be an effective way of ensuring you get the right carrier.

Join your local sling-meet group, although these groups are usually for people with stretchy and woven wraps, they often have sling libraries that include soft structured baby carriers.

Contact your local sling consultant. They host carrier parties for groups and undertake personal one to one consultations. Your sling consultant should have a wide range of carriers and should be able to demonstrate the carriers with you and your child and offer tailored advice.

By thinking about your needs, researching and asking the right questions you should avoid expensive mistakes and ensure you find the right premium baby carrier for you.

Baby Carriers - Should I Carry My Toddler?

The myth runs like this: 'Don't carry your toddler, it only spoils them.' In my role as a sling consultant, I have worked with parents who have challenged this myth and realised that carrying their toddler not only make sense to them on a practical level, it is also a wonderful gift they can give themselves and their child. For the myth to perpetuate we must accept it at face value, contrary to what we would have liked for ourselves when we were young and what we know of our children's personalities. With this article I want to create a pause in the process of accepting the myth and in that pause provide a challenge to the underlying assumptions. My position is this: Yes, you can carry your toddler without spoiling them.

From newborn to toddler

We carry our newborn for many reasons; to regulate heart beat and temperature, to ease colic, to encourage sleep, to calm, to attend to the needs of siblings, to bond. Add all these needs together and a very young baby may spend a significant amount of time being nurtured in a carrier. As they grow older and start walking, we have fewer reasons to carry them. They are obviously heavier and may outgrow their current baby carrier. Eventually, you may stop carrying them altogether, opting for a stroller instead. The assumption that they no longer need to be carried may lead to us missing their subtle emerging needs as toddlers.

Benefits

Toddlers love the change of perspective they get when carried high in a baby carrier. Experiencing the world from the same vantage point as mum builds confidence and understanding and opens up a rich interaction between you both. Toddlers are very curious about the world around them and constantly ask questions about what they see. If they are in a pushchair the opportunities to talk about what they can see are often missed. If they are being carried you can have a constant chat. This will help increase their language and understanding in a natural and enjoyable way.

When you reach the stage where your child wants to walk more it can be tricky managing this and they can easily get tired. But by having a carrier to hand your child can be easily picked up and taken down when necessary. There is no need to lug an empty pushchair around just in case it may be needed.

What to buy

I recommend soft structured carriers (SSC) to clients wishing to carry a toddler, although a supportive woven wrap is fine, too. For the purposes of this article I am sharing my insight on how to buy the right SSC. Toddlers get dirty and like to snack, so buy a baby carrier that can be wiped clean and machine washable. Choose a carrier that is appropriate for the size and age of your child. In addition, a baby carrier with an adjustable back panel for growth means your carrier can be used for longer and by people with a different body shape to your own. Many brands offer toddler versions of their baby carrier, this can be a useful starting point Remember, some brands offer fully adjustable carriers for baby through to pre-school carrying, so again, always check the age range.

You need to ensure that the carrier you use is supportive enough for both of you. For you this will mean a supportive waistband that can distribute the weight and wide padded shoulder straps. Because of the on and off nature of carrying a toddler choose a carrier that can be easily stowed or will fold into a pack that can be worn around your waist, ready for when needed.

Conclusion

There is an implied contradiction in the myth: it is OK to push them around in a stroller but carrying toddlers spoils them. Rather than accepting the myth and phasing out carrying their children when they outgrow the woven or stretchy wrap, I encourage parents to observe the ongoing and emerging needs of their children as they develop and to consider whether a different carrier type would help prolong carrying for them. If more people embraced toddler carrying it would become the norm and more children and parents would enjoy the practical and developmental benefits.

Baby Must Haves Checklist - From Breast Pumps To Baby Carriers

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

With so many different Baby products available, it's hard to know what is a must have and what is not. Obviously every Baby is different and what works for one Baby will not always work for another, however, educating yourself on what Baby items were most coveted by other Mothers will help you weigh your options. This is my list of must have baby items.

1) Baby Carrier - This is a must have baby item, in my opinion, you can never have too many baby carriers. Of course this comes from someone who instead of having a "shoe" fetish, has a Baby Carrier fetish. I personally have three Baby Carriers, and each one serves a different purpose. They're great for colic babies, like my daughter, who always want to be held. I was able to hold her, hands free, and get my house work done. I could not have lived without my Baby Carriers.

2) Breast Pump - When I look back, one of the most used baby items I owned was my Breast Pump. My daughter was three weeks early, and my milk supply had not fully developed, therefore I pumped every day after every feeding. If you find yourself in this situation, don't waste your money on cheap breast pumps, get yourself a high quality breast pump that cycles several times a minute. I had a Medela Swing Single Pump, and I loved it! Of course I went through probably 3 different pumps before I finally bit the bullet and bought the Medela. So, in my opinion, if you're having trouble with your milk supply, or your little one has trouble latching on properly, a Breast Pump is a must have baby item.

3) Baby Swing - Sometimes Mom and Dad just need a break, and a Baby Swing is the perfect stand in, therefore it makes my list of baby must have items. Whether your little one is colic, or not, Baby Swings are not only designed to sooth and comfort, but they can also provide plenty of entertainment. Ours had a little mobile attached that hung above our daughters head, she was obsessed with it, always starring at it, trying to grab it. I used to put her in the swing, with the baby monitor set up next to it of course, and then I'd hop in the shower. It was sometimes the only way I could get a shower!

4) Security Blanket - My daughter wouldn't take a pacifier, and she was never much of a thumb sucker, so when it came to finding something she could use to sooth herself, I went with the security blankets. Hers had satin material on the inside and a little bear head attached. When she got a little bit older and started taking naps in her crib, she would suck on the blanket until she finally drifted off to sleep. She became so attached to this blanket that she had a hard time sleeping without it. So, if this is something that interests you, my only recommendation is that once you find one that your Baby likes, buy a couple, that way when you have to wash one you'll have a stand in.

5)Crib Mobile - The Crib Mobile became a baby must have at about 3 months when I began trying to get my daughter to fall asleep on her own. It was tough, actually unbearable. She would cry non-stop for up to 45 minutes, and in the end I would usually cave and run in an rescue her. A friend suggested that I put a mobile in her crib, and when I finally did, I wished that I had done it months earlier. All it took was 20 minutes of Bach or Beethoven, and she would calmly and quietly drift off to sleep.

Baby carriers: 8 things to look before you buy

A method for the implementation of babies in many cultures the baby sling has been for centuries. It is not just the simplicity of the packaging of a length of cloth to mother and child, create a carrier, which made them so popular, it is also the fact that they constantly contact and personal bond between parent and child, which no other method of baby transport can. That is why the sling has lasted the test of time

Baby Slings are today so popular as they were already and find in many different sizes, styles, colours and fabrics, and it can be a real headache, the search for the perfect carrier for you and your baby.

Here are 8 things you should look for before the purchase of baby packs for you and your baby.

Size and weight rating

Not all baby carriers are suitable for all sizes and weights babies. Some airlines are better suited for newborn babies but not ideal for bigger babies, while other airlines can not provide support for very small babies. You should check the weight rating for each product that you be careful and make sure that it is suitable for your child.

Some baby carriers offer infant inserts, the inside of your network operator, to populate space for smaller children and newborns. This can be useful, but check that they are too hot for your baby, if you is life, and questions whether the use is included in warmer climes or added additional.

Waist belt

If your baby is larger, you want to use your baby carrier, as your baby grows, make sure you, or you select to lower one with a waist belt, which transfers the weight of the baby on your hips and back instead of your shoulders. You will be grateful for it, if you wear it for a long time.

A good fit for you

Baby carriers, as a whole were for an average large people, and therefore you are smaller or bigger than the average, you must verify whether the carrier for you is appropriate. Some airlines are extra long strap, which are large, if you a little extra volume, but can be annoying and come in the way, if you do not.

MOM and dad, the implementation

If your baby is run by MOM and dad, you need to check, how easy be changed the belt can (provided that father of the same size as MOM is not of course). Some airlines can adjust the straps with ease, while others can be very difficult. Of course, the other parent is very large or very small, you have the size limits to take account of.

Front, side or back-to-carry

If you remember, buy one, you need to start what position about you your baby in want to wear. Over the range of baby carriers get the choice on the front of page or on the back of wear. To do this, you must make the decision if you want to make your baby to the world on the front or from inside towards chest... or both face. Most operators you can some of these, while a select, which can only a few select all positions and offer flexible. Make sure that you in advance decide what you want, and check to if your carrier, you can record. Of course, your baby may have other ideas, when he tries it.

Strength and build of the baby-carrier

Of course, all the top models are completely safe so this is no problem, but you want to make sure that your baby comfortable and protected at all times and. Check the belts, the padding, buckles, and all caps. If hangers are plastic, mark if they are stable, to feel you. Depending on weather conditions in your area, check the fabric, which is from the airline to see whether it is too hot or too cold for your baby. For hot climates, you should look for organic materials such as cotton and shy of fabrics such as polyester.

Can be washed your baby carrier?

Germs and bacteria are not something that you want on your baby carrier, above all, as babies have a tendency, they suck on the next part. That is why the possibility of your baby wrap regularly wash very is important.

Bags

This can be important if you want to travel with a light Pack and don't want to wear your baby as well as the diaper bag, bottle, and towels etc.. Some baby carriers have integrated pockets, which can easily keep, fresh diapers and wipes, which means that you need only your baby and nothing else. If this sounds like something you would like, then check if your carrier has big pockets.

A practice is baby-carriers, the swinging or "wear" a baby in a piece of cloth, which can be wrapped thrown to your baby and, over one shoulder in a cloth like a noose or a Rebozo secured in a narrow Sling worn on the body in a backpack-style close traditional Asian style as the Mei tai, instead of in one of the most preferred style of the institution of today - a soft structured baby wrap like a ERGO, Close BECO or Baby Bjorn baby carrier. Wearing a baby in a tight, is not a new invention or trend. Before using strollers, prams or strollers to the standard has become, women have on their small they keep warm and cozy, quiet enable and improve breathing and heart beat pattern, manage small preferred protecting predators and danger, as well as women to their precious go on their own daily activities or work, which virtually all the time little one to close.
