My Little One has extremely sensitive skin, annoyingly sensitive, so cloth diapering has been a challenge from the start. We actually stopped for a while because I was so frustrated. No matter what I tried he would get a rash, and not just a little redness, it would be welts on his poor little tush! He also has a dairy allergy and gets bad eczema on his face, back, legs and tush if he even looks at the stuff! So, before I decided to give fluff another try I did my homework. What did I find? Yes, coconut oil!
Turns out coconut oil is something like a miracle cream! You can use it for skin, hair, nails, stress relief, and cooking oil! It moisturizes the skin and unlike other oils there are no risks of adverse side effects. Not only does the cream work for rashes but it tackles psoriasis, dermatitis and eczema with its antibacterial, anti-fungal, antioxidant, antimicrobial power! Phew! Not to mention it delays wrinkles and sagging skin, just saying.
I ran to my local health food store and picked up a large tub of organic, virgin, cold-pressed coconut oil. I slathered my Little's tush before putting on his cloth diaper and added some to the eczema on his face. I gave him yogurt the day before hoping he somehow outgrew his allergy but unfortunately he didn't. I then sent him off to bed. Since he is almost a year old I don't change his diapers at night, so this was going to be a good test since overnight was the most problematic for us.
The results? Amazing! He had no rash and his eczema was improved, it has taken about 2 days for the eczema to completely clear up. I make sure to put the coconut oil on at each diaper change and we haven't had any issues with his skin! It absorbs what seems like instantly and doesn't make a sticky mess everywhere.
The best news of all is it is completely safe for fluff! It rinses out of fabric causing NO absorbency problems!! And you can feel great knowing exactly what your putting on your babies skin! I love the fact that if My Little gets it on his hands and then immediately put them in his mouth I don't have to worry.
You can purchase coconut oil at any health food stores or order it online.
